Interview: Triangle Piece (Glenn Davis of Way Yes)

MP3: Triangle Piece – Johnny (Single Version)

So a few weeks ago, Glenn Davis (1/4 of Way Yes and 100% of Triangle Piece) sent me his new album, The Man I Love. Being a fan of the music he makes, I was intrigued before the first listen and it has since become a breath of fresh air peeking through the infinite amount of indie bullshit right now.

I sat down and interviewed Glenn via the interweb (thank goodness for technology) and he told me how Triangle Piece came about. The Man I Love can be downloaded starting today here (name your price).

So you ARE Triangle Piece, correct?

Yes is the answer to your first question.

Is this your first full release?

Yes. Well… it’s not the first I started, but it’s the first I’ve finished. I have another one that I have been working on very slowly and this was an attempt to make an album in a more immediate way because the other way was taking so long. I made The Man I Love in two weeks.

What are we calling this collection of jams? Other than The Man I Love
.

I call it an album. It’s sort of a mixtape, or a beat tape but I don’t really understand the difference because I feel like I know what to expect if a rapper puts out a mix tape… a release of tracks that aren’t album material. This is not that, but it’s sort of a beat tape. I don’t know, I’m not trying to get people to hire me to make beats for them or to get people to rap over these, so it’s not really that either. So I just call it an album.

Method Man In Columbus December 27th

I saw Method Man in 1994 at Valley Dale. Adina Howard opened. She performed with her backside facing the audience the whole time. Not quite a regular Miles Davis because she would look over her shoulder into the crowd. Which if you think about it…Singing while contorted is a difficult task. Place went apeshit when she did Freak Like Me. I was with my girllfriend at the time so I kept acting like I didnt notice that a woman in leather shorts was basically putting her ass in all of our faces. Me. I straight stared at my Timbs and complained about R+B.  Even though you know I am high-powered …Beg your pardon God.

Meth was entertaining because 1) He kept thanking the women in the crowd that keep their “pu77ies tight”. 2) He invited everyone on stage and eventually got maced by a cop. Despite being blinded Meth wasn’t detered. He attempted to fight the soundman for turning the music off after the macing.  After Meth was escorted away the crowd refused to leave. Everyone  stayed and chanted “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthin to Fuck Wit” for a half hour. The BOMA show will probably be different.

Jay-z Resigns as Def Jam’s President.

Well according to a XXL Magazine report, Jay-z has stepped down as Def Jam’s President. Joe Buddens, Cam’ron, Method Man, LL Cool J and a zillion other New York artists have been clamoring about Jay-z’s percieved selfishness for sometime. According to XXL, Jay-z will stay on Def Jam subsidary Roc-a-Fella Records as a recording artist.
