MP3:Telephoned “All the Lights” (Kanye West Cover)

MP3:Telephoned-All Of The Lights

Sammy Bananas is returning to Columbus. When he was here last year, it was the perfect cure for the wintertime blahs. This time he will be joined by vocalist Maggie Horn to do electro-pop versions of rap songs like their rendition of Kanye West’s All The Lights that is available above. They call themselves Telephoned when they do that.

Sammy will also dejay. Cornelius Jackson, and Dirty Current will provide entertaiment as well. This is at Sweatin. At Axis.  Thursday. Look at the Flyer.

Tim Kasher(Cursive/The Good Life) in Columbus at the Summit October 7th

YouTube Preview Image

Since Dead Prez has us playing “what music did poly-sci majors listen to in 2002?”, why not mention Tim Kasher of Cursive/the Good life will be in Columbus, October 7th.

Now, I have no idea what those bands sound like. But I do know there is something about star tattoos, lots of girls, and my friends making fun of me.

Hopefully, some other member of the Donewaiting staff knows who this is will do a better write-up.

But  from this you-tube video Tim seems like this guy is prolly alright and deserves to make money.

this being presented by Sweatin and Yalan and appeals to appeal to a decent amount of people.  Transit Transit, and Apeture open.

check the facebook for more info

looks like if you are a doo-gooder and friends with James Payne, you will be able to go to the Delusions of Eating Show, and then go see the guy from Cursive. What a night!!

R.I.P. Eric Rohmer

YouTube Preview Image
Above a is trailer for “My Night at Maud’s” from Eric Rohrmer’s series of seduction and dillema Six Moral Tales

So here at Donewaiting we have shown a wealth of support and adoration for Moral Talesmonthly party, which stole its name from Rohmer’s adult version of choose your own adventure and relaunched itself successfully last Friday by townie provacteuar Scotty Neitmet, and polite societies’ #1 DJ, Detox, at Havana in the Shono.
Sadly, and in a weird timing for local gays, handsome gentleman and stunning temptresses do to its proximity with the Moral Tales’ relaunch, the French New Wave director passed away at age 89.
Read about Eric Rohmer in the the New York TImes.

DJ Detox-Joy Divisions Art Show Is Today Mix

045

Mp3:DJ Detox-Joy Division Mix

DJ Detox of Get Right, and Channing/Carley/Raina’s house party fame created a mix of the Manchester Post-Punk group’s music  for today’s Joy Divisions Art Show .

The art show is  in the  front  the Columbus Metropolitian today from 2-7:30 pm. (Downtown)

Joy Divisions curated by Eva Ball is inspired by pretty much any angle you can take on Joy Division. From Nazi sex slave camps to song interptations to abstracted word associations.

(Ask yourself, Whats a Joy Division? The 2010 pick-up line)

It’s a pretty thought provoking vechile.

I have an essay in the catalog. (I’m in a book, yo!) I deal with everything from Sex with Robots to public death.  (WTF that has do with Joy Division? It works.)

If you find me to be an idiot still come out because the  list of artists and writers that created work for this show and its catalog is pretty righteous. The lumininarys include but aren’t limited to Art Forum’s Mark Harris and  Ivy League  filmaker Mike Stickrod,(wudup sae)

Other artists and writers include Carmel Buckley, Hannah Barnes, Ryan Agnew, Sarah Bernat, Paul Simmons, Dan Olsen, Tina Matthews, Ian Ruffino, Laura Bratigan, Grant LaValley, Chad Shepherd, Nick Crane, Erica Bailey, Eva Ball, Josh Erb, Jen Burton,Marshall Barnes, and maybe Bangwash.

I know boy boy you are like, wow. But hold up, and say whoa because there will be a meal served at 630 pm.

Free food.(Krogers is in the building)

The homie Detox is dejaying the after party at Skylab..

The JD mix up here contains live, demo, edited and regular versions of Joy Divisions jawns blended and arranged in cohesive manner without having to get all fidget house or having to pay44.99 for those reissues.

(Next week I will post the tracklisting and maybe some analysis. It’s interesting to see what dejays pick up on)

 24 Party People pillz.

Also at the Skylab will be CDR-o-gee Tommy Jay, Anna Ranger,  Ginger Fetus and the dubbed out JD coverband, Jam Division .

There is a 5 dollar cover for the afterparty that will go to show costs, and the local homeless shelter.

2009 Marcon Convention

On May 24th at 4am CJ Townsend and I were so bored that we attended afterparties for the Marcon convention at 4am. I am actually not sure what exactly Marcon is. But I think its a gathering of  swingers that are also into Star Trek, World of Warcraft and Anime from all over the nation. It was a funny way to kill 90 minutes before they kicked me out.

Columbus skaterboarder/dejay socialite, CJ Townsend and I ran into each at Moral Tales at the Summit. Some weird girl had pulled me in the bathroom and tried to make out with me. It was funny at first but then became really annoying.  I told her that currently she is annoying me but if she contacted me in about two hours it would be 5 am, and I would perhaps be bored enough to make out with her if I wasn’t asleep and had absolutely nothing better to do.

So I asked CJ if he wanted to hit up the Shelf/Skylab party for Bobby Silver, Nate Ober and someone else so that I could get the fuck away from said girl.(no offense  but like Jeezy said, ‘I don’t know you”.)

By the time we got there it was winding down cause it was like 3:00 am or so . We hung out on the roof with Ron from Carabar, Envelope  and Derik Yelloweyes .

I got a text from Danielle Kline saying we are missing out on Marcon Parties at the Hyatt.

Normally I feel like to go to something like Marcon to make fun of people shows how boring and lame your life is. I mean, if you have nothing better to do than laugh at nerds having fun then, what does that say about your life?

But guess what, I had nothing better to do. So I guess I am that bad off.

We got to the Hotel . I texted Danielle she brought an entourage of larpers that were willing to be guides for us non-wizards.

Upon entering the hotel, we saw an assortment of really funny looking people.

Make note of the man dressed like a prostitute in the Pirates of the Carrebean.

After roaming around for awhile and enjoying the beautiful people, we found a hotel party.

Everything was a lot more sexual and wild that I expected. People were taking their clothes off and randomly making out with each other.

CJ was quick to make friends while laughing at people.

Some rousing karoake set-off.

CJ found a watergun and began shooting people with it. He would then tap me and point out that he just shot “nerds” wit a watergun.

Somehow the party Live action role players were unable to deduce who was shooting them with a water gun. Karoake continued.

I felt bad that they were getting shot with a watergun because of how strange they appear. So I tried to make friends with them by joining in with the Karoake. I sat down next to the man that looking a whore for pirates and tried to sing along.

At this point Supergroover and Gnome enter the room, and announced that their was a furry party going on elsewhere.

The man dressed like a  pirate prostitute did not want to be my friend. After CJ completed giving play by play on his phone we elected to leave with Supergroover and Gnome in pursuit of the furry party.

We stopped on every floor from like the 6th to 20th. Supergroover, Gnome and some other dood would get out an make this weird growl to try to get a response from the furries. I guest most furries aren’t social so most of the communication is non-verbal.

Supergroover, Gnome, and the other guy were all like 7 feet tall, 400 pounds and gay. Every now and then they would imply they would settle for a gay party, and say something creepy.

We would ignore them. CJ began to shoot them with his waterfun. CJ also inquired if he could deejay Marcon next year. He claimed to have a large selection of the non-existent “fantasy trance” genre..

(someone needs start making fantasty trance)

After giving up on the furry party we decided to go to this cafeteria area for refreshments.

I walked in the caferteria drinking and beer. I ate some chips. A couple Larpers asked me where my bagde was, and told me this was a private convention.

I would just ignore them and walk over to another chip bowl.

I eventually was surrounded by angry Larpers who told me I had to leave because I was violating their space.

I tried to tell them I was very important guest of the Hyatt. CJ claimed to be a famous dejay, and that I was his manager.

The nerds didn’t buy it. They kept telling me that they were going to call securty. I told them security would just escort me out so it didn’t really matter.

The nerds couldn’t comprehend the idea of someone who wasn’t afraid getting told on. So I would look away for two minutes while they starred at me.

The I would look up and say “hey, what are you looking at?”. They would reply “you aren’t supposed to be here”. They would tell me they were calling security.

I would respond, “oh yeah, I forgot”. Eventually I felt bad that the larpers that had taken us around might be ostracized from the their herd because of my behaviour.

So I went and hid in the bathroom with the intention of returning in an hour after security left, and my allies were gone.

TO make the close-minded normal hating nerds angry but no to violate my new friends.

After hiding in the bathroom I got board. SO I found CJ and we left.

All in all, most larpers just want to get laid and have fun. And ones that don’t hang out next to the concession stands

Good thing I left though  because these guys could’ve shown up, and I would’ve been on the recieving end of the Marcon hammer of justice.

Diplo in Columbus Review

null
800 people paid 12-20 dollars to see Diplo in Columbus,Ohio.
For good reason. He invented anything that matters currently in the world of dancing. I mean…do I need to point out how before Diplo it was either James Brown or staying home because nerds wanted to play drum n bass?
I mean he made all of us ex-backpackers or hardcore kids into club goers kinda.
Anyway, after the jump I will recap the show.

null
Pictures by Danielle Kline may vary due the fact that she took 423 of them. But they are all better then the ones I took on my cellphone camera

Johnny Cashola & Dave Espionage held down the patio.
Everyone I knew was kicking it out there because it was a nice night.
There were too many people I knew. Diplo in Columbus is something I personnally planned on enjoying. So I had to avoid the washed-up bittermen, and the sometimes heartfelt but energy draining hip hopharlots.
So I hunted down Schoolboy and asked him if there I could hide to avoid having a anxiety attack. All of Columbus was out.
It was kinda like a more attractive comfest.

I ran into Diplo in VIP. Turns out he is really close with RJD2. Which make sense because last time Diplo was in town dood was opening for RJ @ Little Brothers.
We discussed coming from a background of backpacker and ending up elsewhere due to liking music.
Diplo was pretty familar with Columbus, having heard of Blueprint, Times New Viking & Pyschedelic Horseshit.
He actually told me a story about the worst experience he had performing involving a show he did with Print & RJ in Cleveland.
Wasn’t Print’s fault. Just some of the Echo rocking ugly weren’t ready.
Diplo was also stoked on Adulture set who was slaying the crowd at the time.

I told Diplo that Adulture was mad young & was going to be grounded for staying out too late.

Diplo took the Skullys stage & immeadeatly lit it up with some classic house.
alignnone
alignnone
Diplo played dubstep. Diplo was recently aiding Lil Jon for the King of Krunks dubstep album.
I like dubstep but there is a strong fear I have of it ushering back in Drum N Bass.
alignnone
Diplo played Baille Funk. And he played some of his own stuff like “Must Be A Devil”.

As some point all the moisture and mayhem shorted out a battery in Diplo’s equiptmen causing a brief stopage. It didn’t kill the mood. It added to the house party feeling.

At 2:00 am Diplo went “Get Right”, playing “Turn My Swag On” , Gucci Mane, Big Al “I Came Up” setting up……

SANTANA’S TOWN I had written an open letter to Diplo requesting he play Santana’s Town here on donewaiting. Diplo had read it. Much to the amusement of host CJ Townsend & Sweatin promoter Scotty Neimet.

Diplo played Santana’s Town for about 30 seconds. Most of the local’s that wanted the song were dancing on stage so it didn’t start riots it usually does.
He then dropped “Bigger than Hip Hop” which got a pretty good response from the college crowd.
Diplo eventually dropped “Papers Planes” & then did that thing that every dejay always does when MIA says “no one on the corner has swagger like us” which leads into a double-up of”Swagger Like Us” by TI and company. (only plus of scribble jam being canceled is not having to see to what beatboxers and turntablists would do with those two songs)
Diplo got a grammy for that one so who could blame him for dropping those joints.
And then he gave largely white alt female crowd their third orgasm by playing “Sabotage” by the Beastie Boys.

Not all alt females were happy.Bridget here is really angry with Diplo for cutting “Santana’s Town” short. And was demanding to hear more Dipset or for “Santana’s Town” to be played again.

“What do you mean you can’t play it again. I don’t understand”-Bridget
“That song is like 5 years old & I don’t even play my own song twice”-Diplo
This moment ended up on Diplo’s Twitter.

Garret from Adulture tells Diplo that while Dipset is well requested in Columbus; it’s ok. We like fidget house too.

The soundman cuts Diplo off. Diplo requests another song.

The crowd demands another song. The locals on stage are screaming for “I Used to get it in Ohio”

alignnone

Diplo drops some indie rock song I have never heard in my life. I am gonna go ahead and just sat it was Matt & Kim because CJ knew the words. But the crowd knew it and went nuts….

—————–

And what happens in hipsterville when the doors are shut and everything is closed?

No cociane. Instead I strike up a convo with Diplo’s ace Cullen Stalin about Master Fard Muhammed.

We were both really amused at Malachi Z York’s depiction of Fard in a lot of Z. York’s scrolls.
(for those playing along at home. Master Fard Muhammed is the man that came from New Zealand to create the Nation of Islam in the wilderness of North America.
Of course Malachi Z. York is a household name for being wrongly incarcerated.

Diplo came up to me and was like “what the fuck man. I played your Santana’s Town. And that girl would stop yelling at me to play it again.”

This led to a series of girls argueing with Diplo about not playing Pac. Or the wrong Gucci Mane song.

I truelly loved Columbus at that moment.
It’s 330 am. Diplo is explaining why he didn’t play Pac.

Diplo & I had a discussion on how Cleveland’s Fat Al didn’t kill with that crowd. I told Diplo if it was downtown it would’ve. Schoolboy pointed out if with were between Summit Forth it would as well.

I felt liek Diplo kinda proved a point by dropping ‘bigger than hip hop” and then “Paper Planes”.

His movement goes beyond wanting to heard krunk or gangster shit these days. It’s truely about music. He is on his Afrika Bambatta, searching for the perfect break shit.

I mean those songs are old as dirt.

I accused Diplo of being friends with Jay-z for kicks. He said he likes both. He prolly is friends with Jay-z. I mean they did get a grammy together. Who could blame him.

Then he suggested we take photo’s throwing up Dipset so Columbus knows that even though he has never heard “I Used to Get It in Ohio” he has respect for the Dips.

Dood is cool as fuck. And Columbus is silly as hell.
In a good way.
The show that was 4 years in the making was perfect.

COP MAJER LAZERS WHEN IT DROPS!!
