Zaytoven Discusses V-Nasty, “Back To The Basement” Reality TV Show With Waka & Gucci + More

MP3: Prince Kennedy and Zaytoven Announces New Gucci Mane Movie Birds of A Feather and new Reality Show With Gucci & Waka

Update:This was submitted before Waka Flocka’s Good Friend and BSM member Slim Dunkin was murdered in Atlanta yesterday. Our Condolences go out to Brick Squad and Slim Dunkin’s friends and family.

The homie Prince Kennedy shot me this MP3 of superproducer Zaytoven talking to the Beat 94.5 in Charlotte, North Carolina.  You know Zaytoven that produced Gucci Mane & Young Jeezy’s “So Icey?!!..Yeah man.
Anyway,  Zaytoven explained working him and Gucci working V-Nasty, and what caught his attention about her. He basically said she isn’t a basic bitch without saying basic bitch. She says bitch so I can?
He also announced Gucci Mane, and Waka Flocka have a reality show called Back to the Basement in the works Gucci Mane also has a movie coming out called Birds of  Feather.

So good readers of Donewaiting download the MP3 and see what Zaytoven is talking about.

Interview: Waka Flocka Flame discusses “Triple F Life ” Album & Sarah Palin’s probable crush on him

Waka Flocka Flame had quite a year last year. Last time Donewaiting talked to him in October 2010,  he just dropped a classic with Flockavelli. We tipped Waka off that punk rock and metal kids mess with him.

In the coming year Waka campaigned for P.E.T.A. and the Atlanta rapper also embraced his role as the punk rock kid’s favourite rapper.

And that’s all side hustle really. This isn’t counting all the really huge things, like the smash hits, Hard in the Paint, and No Hands.  Or Ferrari Boyz and all of the mixtapes.

Waka is gearing up for a huge 2012. He’s prepping the Triple F Life album, which is slated for an early 2012 release with guests Drake, Tyler, the Creator, BSM and possibly both DMX, Nas and plenty more. I talked him on the phone yesterday, and he discussed the meaning of each of the F’s. I also asked him if would do it to Sarah Palin. Unfortunately, he did not know who Palin was. Well, please read this interview.

Shout out to Prince Kennedy for hooking it up.

ME: My name is Wes Flexner. I am with Donewaiting.com. How are you doing today?

Waka Flocka Flame: I am good.  I am on the tourbus.

ME: How is the tour treating you?

Waka Flocka Flame: C’mon man. They love me.

ME: People wilding out. Going crazy?

Waka Flocka Flame: It was crazy.

ME: Can you tell me the name of the new record?

Waka Flocka Flame: My new record is “Round of Applause.” I remixed it with Drake. Shit is serious. It’s like a woman just want to rub herself man.

ME: So when you write a record like “Round of Applause,” do you go to the strip club to do research?

Waka Flocka Flame: Naw, truthfully when I did “Round of Applause” I just think of me with a woman. I rap it to my girl.

ME: The new album is called Triple F Life. What are the three F’s?

Waka Flocka Flame: Friends, Fans, Family

Read more about Waka Flocka Flame after the jump.

ME: I noticed you are really good with your fans. Why are your fans important to you?

Waka Flocka Flame: C’mon man. Why are interviews important? Same difference. That’s a must. Without your fans, who are you? Why are you doing music? I used to think, “It’s just for the money.” It’s cool to get the money. But if you don’t have no fans, shit ain’t fun.  It’s cool to smile. I like the feeling of making a person smile.

ME: Me and my friend, we were going through your instagram yesterday and you also do a photoshop with like Squarebob Spongepants. Do you make those yourself?

Waka Flocka Flame: Hey man, hey man. You called me out. I make those myself.

Waka Flocka Having Fun With Photoshop.

Me: I think it’s really cool you do that… Another F is for Friends, right? You have a bunch of different friends on the album. What is some stuff Suge Knight has taught you?

Waka Flocka Flame: Suge is just a cool person. He ain’t got nothin’ to do with me music-wise. He is just a cool person.

ME: So on the album you’ve got Drake.  You have Tyler, the Creator. What’s it like working with Tyler, the Creator?

Waka Flocka Flame: Tyler, the Creator is my bad-ass little brother. Every time you see him. You be like, “This mutha fucka is wild.’

ME: What’s the name of the song with Tyler, the Creator?

Waka Flocka Flame: It’s called, “It’s a secret.”

ME: On the internet, it said it was called “Garden Gnomes.” Who else is on the album?

Waka Flocka Flame: Tyler, the Creator. Drake. I am trying to get DMX, man this guy is so hard to catch up with. DMX. I got some more people, you know. Nas.

ME: You have a song with Nas. Wow, that’s amazing.

Waka Flocka Flame: He is soon to get on.

Me: When is the album gonna drop?

Waka Flocka Flame: I wanted to drop 4th quarter. But I want to put my all into it. So I am dropping it 1st quarter.

Me: Another F is family. Is your mom still managing you?

Waka Flocka Flame: My mother will always manage me. If I get another manager, I am going to have two of them. She will always be the last one to make the decision.

Me: Sorry to get a little personal. But on “O’Le Do It” you said you hadn’t been right since your brother passed. Have you been able to find peace with that?

Waka Flocka Flame: Honestly, I don’t think I will be able to find peace until I close my eyes.

Me: What discussion of family is gonna be on the album?

Waka Flocka Flame: A couple of issues. A couple of life experiences with family I had.

ME: Another word that starts with F is fame. How do you deal with fame?

Waka Flocka Flame:I don’t know about fame. Fame ain’t a word. I drop the E. F-A-M. Family Above Money.

Me: That’s cool. I am gonna ask you a silly question. I was reading that Sarah Palin, the lady that is running for president, had an affair with basketball player Glen Rice. Back in the 80s. I was wondering. Would you fuck Sarah Palin?

Waka Flocka Flame: The President lady?

Me: Not Michelle Obama. Sarah Palin. She was running for president. She is a Republican lady. She is kind of a bitch. She lived in Alaska. When basketball players would come and play games up there she would have sex with the basketball players. I guess you don’t know who she is. She likes black guys. I figure it’s very plausible that she would have a crush on Waka Flocka Flame.

Waka Flocka Flame: Shit, you need to hook that up boy… I wish I’d seen her. I ain’t got a picture so I can’t answer the question. She sound like she would be you know.

Me: Yeah, it’d be funny. It’d be great.

Me: I read somewhere that you are going back the old Waka. The ’09 Waka. What does that mean?

Waka Flocka Flame: I am back to that 09. It means I am not conscious what I do. I am do it because I wanna.

Waka Flocka Flame Interviews Tyler the Creator

Last year, I interviewed Waka Flocka Flame. I told him that punk rock and metal kids love his music because its rowdy-as fuck.

And I asked him if he fucks with punk or metal

This year Odd Future blew the fuck up because of the same sentiment. I think Tyler’s record Goblin is damn near 100,000 on an indie(bout it like Master P in ’96 indeed). Mellowhype’s reissue on Fat Possum of Blackendedwhite broke the Billboard Top 100. Breakin’ the Rules is cool again.

So I am really stoked that Interview Magazine had Waka Flocka Flame interview Odd Future’s Tyler, the Creator.

In this excerpt Waka Flocka asks Tyler, the Creator if he considers himself punk rock or metal:

FLAME: So would you describe Odd Future as a hip-hop heavy-metal group? Or a punk-rock rap group? How do you describe what you and your crew do?

TYLER: I don’t like either description. I don’t like being put in a box. I just make music, you know? When you’re put in a box, people have a set mind-state of what your music could sound like before they even look into it. Like, if no one ever heard of me, but I’m hip-hop-metal-rock, then they’re already gonna have an expectation of what the music will sound like. Then, when they go in and finally listen to it, it might be different from what they thought, and they could automatically hate it because they already had expectations.

FLAME: I dig it. You gotta create your own genre.

TYLER: Yeah.

FLAME: So what inspires y’all then?

TYLER: When I’m on stage, it’s, like, Ian Curtis and Sid Vicious—like, real punk rock and shit. I’m like a big 10-year-old when I’m on stage. I just go up there and do whatever I think is cool at the moment. And then, when it comes to rappin’, I like watchin’ a lot of cartoons and movies and shit. Usually, when I’m rappin’, I’m creating a big story or a concept song that sounds like a movie to me.

Waka Flocka Flame Goes Hard In the Paint For Animal Rights and PETA

Awhile back I interviewed Waka Flocka Flame for this here website. I told him that alot of hardcore kids I know listen to him and not much much else. When I said that, I had no idea he would be getting all Earth Crisis on us. Maybe Thought Catalog was onto something when they used veganism to describe the Atlanta rapper in a review.

Yesterday, Waka Flocka told Hip Hopdx that he would join Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Pink, and other celebrities in PETA’s “Ink Not Mink” campaign February 22nd.

Waka Flocka’s argument for animal rights? Waka said, “Animals should be treated the same as you would a kid. Would you want someone just to walk up and skin your kid? Hell no!”

While, I like the idea of Waka channeling his violent ways Animal Liberation Front style, honestly this isn’t that extreme.
Athletes likeA’mare Stoudemire, and Chad Ochocinco have posed nude to protest fur for PETA in the past.(nh)

While being a vegan myself, I am stoked one of my favorite rappers is taking stand for animal rights without having Erykah Badu putting a finger in his butthole. Something tells me Waka isn’t vegan.
But if Waka is, or decides to embrace a cruelty free diet, I suggest eating at Soul Veg in Atlanta after a long day of bustin at em, and going hard in the paint. Things could get really interesting from there.

2010 Show Memories: Damn, I guess living in Columbus isn’t so bad.

When I sat down to recount my year, I hadn’t even really registered what I got to see. All my friends moved away. I pretty  was miserable.

I spent the majority of the year hanging out by myself.

But now looking back, I was really fortunate this year.

I got to see the Black Keys spread love and become one of the biggest rock bands in America. RJD2 played our 7 Year Anniversary. Jay Electronica came to town and did a really intimate show then got signed 7-8 months later by Jay-z to Roc Nation. I solicited Wavves’ opinion on Psychedelic Horseshit.  I witnessed  what Dame Dash’s guy, Currensy ,was doing the night Jay Electronica signed with Jay-z.  I talked to Bone after a nationally publicized arrest. Well, read away if you want.

1.The Black Keys Lifestyles Community Center August 13th

The image source of this tattoo is  from  the cover of Chulahoma,  an ep by the Black Keys. It is on the body of a female that had a family member die of cancer.   The finger pointing it out belongs to Mary Stormer,  Key’s drummer Patrick Carney’s mother.  Mary Stormer’s son and Patrick’s brother,  Michael created the image that is tattooed on this girl.  The girl got this tattoo because Chulahoma was what got her through hard times.

The tribute to Junior Kimbrough IS a blues record.

Mary Stormer, and I explained to the girl that the band would really appreciate this.  Mrs. Stormer told me to take a picture and send it to Michael. The band was onstage so they couldn’t give the girl a hug.

I told her a story about a friend of the Black Keys in Akron that had passed,  and the Keys perspective on music when it pertains that.

But this is part of the reason why this show was so special and I have love for the Black Keys . The Carney brother’s mom, dad,  step-mom, and quite a few others were hanging around , visibleyhappy at their family’s success. So from the opening moment when the Keys had GZA’s Liquid Swords playing to ,what sounds like the owner of the lonely hearts change up in Tighten-Up , to the show’s finale “Til I Get My Way” it was just a real warm feeling.

It was just a celebration. Made you kind of forget the show sold out a month early and the Keys were in the process becoming one of the biggest rock bands in America. Everyone was just nice.

I caught up with Dan Auerbach backstage. And the illest thing about Dan was that the conversation was about Sean Price and rappers like that. Dan is a straight-up Hip Hop head.

It was like talking to The Catalyst. More on that later.

Everyone was so normal in their happiness. After the show, we all went back to Tip Top.  Everyone was real normal in their happiness. Pat asked about various Columbus things. The Carney brothers’s dad James, asked about weedsteeler.com and told me stories about working with Chuck Klosterman at the Akron-Beacon Journal. On some other circumstances we could’ve all watched a Woody Allen movie together.

2.Jay Electronica-Boma March 5th

Jay Electronica..My trifecta in the Other Paper previewing this show said “Treat this like going to see Common or Nas in early 1994, before they became legends.”  This was in March.

Envelope said on CD101′s Andy MAn-a-thon that  ”we had better start valueing and honoring the people we lost because they make our city great. We certainly arent gonna be known for our mountains and good weather.”

And Daymon Day is as simple as that.
Read more about this organic tribute to local culture here.

(And for the record Tony grew-up in a strong democrat home. Myself, I’m a vegan whose politics are fairly obvious .

Daymon being a Republican is what made him a unique individual. I once questioned him on it, and I realized it’s fairly racist for white people to project their political leanings on non- whites. The world is way too complex to impose liberal missionary behaviors on your friends.

But it is not a Republican or Libertarian Parade. Unless it offends you then, its actually a T-Party event  And we got Sarah Palin in booty shorts.)

6.Bone Thugs at the Newport-April 1st

7. J Cole- Newport Music Hall November 3rd

Jay-z’s protege J-Cole played a BET Music Matters show at the Newport.  The North Carolina Native had two keyboard players providing warmth and melody, he played a beat machine at times and was backed by DJ Dummy.

J Cole’s polished performance really made him stand-out compared to every up and coming rapper I saw this year. It all made more sense why Jigga is investing time in Cole.

After the show, Cole kicked it with me and answered a few questions. The first beat he made, he chopped up a Shyne sample. Things like that.

8.Wavves- Skullys September 15th

We have all read the Psychedelic Horseshit interview about Wavves. So when Wavves played 4 blocks from my house, I figured why not go see what Nathan Williams of Wavves made of all that.  So after the show I stated my name and a couple names, Nathan, Stephen Pope and Billy Hayes invited me to sit at their table.  I asked Nathan if he felt weird about being in Columbus. His response was, “because of Matt(of Psychedelic Horseshit)? Naw. Those guys don’t like me. But they’ve (Stephen and Billy used to play with Jay Reatard) have both toured with all those groups. It’s not a big deal.”

Nathan and I then talked about Curren$y, the first RJD2 album, Aceyalone , and Rick Ross calling himself Big Meech on BMF. I had written on donewaiting that the Wavves song Convertible Cacoon reminded me of  Cali Swag’s “Teach Me How to Dougie”. Nathan told me that was because they added an 808 over the regular drum.

Stephen and Billy made Nathan load all the equiptment which I thought was interesting…

Other notable thing, is that Nathan, Billy, and Stephen were unaware that the booking agent had rejected Psychedelic Horseshit’s offer to open the show.

I’m not saying this to back Wavves or bash anyone.

Just a moment in time.

Anthony Porter, who if you live in Columbus you probably know he is, was there. If not, Anthony allegedly stabbed someone outside of Cafe Bourbon Street. I said allegedly because I am not a lawyer and do not know how to write.

I introduced Nathan Williams and Anthony to each other because neither one of them are popular at Bourban Street.

As far as why I talk to Anthony Porter? I feel like  he turned himself in, and is going to jail. It’s not like there isn’t punishment and reprucussion looming. I am not advocating a human being hurt by any means.

So basic human compassion states don’t leave some troubled person with no one to talk to.  I think its similar to sending books to prisoners or writing someone in jail. Maybe I’ve read the Autobiography of Malcolm X too many times, and actually internalized Upski’s writings.

As far as Nathan Williams, I can see both sides of it. He was influenced by Columbus music, so there is always an idea of what happens when someone takes from you without being involved with what help build it.

And not executing in a manner that you enjoy.

On the flip-side, his new record doesn’t sound like Columbus stuff anymore. And my biggest assumption is both Nathan Williams, and Psychedelic Horseshit are probably more concerned making music,  and doing right by themselves.

Horseshit does have a new album it’s coming out on a good label.

9.Curren$y-Skullys November 12th

YouTube Preview Image

This was an interesting show because it was on the night of Jay Electronica signing with Roc Nation. Currensy is down with Dame Dash, so unless Oprah and Farrakhan step in I would imagine this was the public ending of  Center Edge Territory.

Especially with Mos Def already off with Kanye and absent from 24 Hour Karate School. But what do I know? It was funny because from Skullys, Currensy twittered at Jay Electronica, “I dunno boss. I’m staying here”.

Besides the National question of allegiances, there was an Ohio conflict. Currensy  had to navigate his friendships with Cleveland’s Chip the Ripper, and Stalley. There is underlying rumored tension between the two.  The rumor is Chip doesn’t like Williamsburg residant Stalley trying to build his presence in Ohio. Currensy kept saying, “I’m cool with Chip. I swear”.

It is not like this is something that would make people act horrible. Just some Hip Hop on my block type ish.

And the final conflict was that the 3rd and Royal Columbus had a disagreement which led the 3rd jumping off the show.

At the end of the day, Currensy is good at rapping about weed. So his fans came to see him do that and prolly weren’t worried about rest.

11.Jonsi Newport Music Hall

Jonsi’s beautiful sound, and backdrop made the Newport seem like the Wexner for a night. Photos here.

And I don’t listen to Sigur Ross or Jonsi. But I have a hunch Kanye does. Just from some of the magic realism in his Runaway movie.

12.Camu Tao-King Of Heartz Release Party

Metro of Smash, and El-P celebrated this life and music of Columbus rapper/producer Camu Tao at Skullys.

El-P helped put out Camu’s King of Hearts on Fat Possum Records.

I think this was prolly the most high profile Columbus release this year.
