Download: Sweet Valley – Eternal Champ

Ok, Sweet Valley is hold-up. Wait. Ok.

So Nathan Williams of Wavves put out some records, toured the world and then bought himself a house. His lil bro bro was Kynan chillin’ at their parents San Diego crib-o making electronic pop music. Nathan Williams told Kynan Williams that he would let him move out of his parent’s spot and into the new crib  for free under the condition that Kynan would work on this Sweet Valley project with him.  I guess they bonded over Shadow, Dipset, Dilla and DJ Screw. The press release doesn’t say that Nathan smoked Kynan out. It does say Kynan is 5 years’ younger than Nathan and Nathan did not want Kynan to steal his weed.

Fool’s Gold To Release Wavves’ Nathan Williams & His Brother’s Beat Tape

Credit: Dan Monick

MP3: TOTAL CARNAGE (spin)

Awhile back we posted remix of a Gift of Gab  song done by Wavves’ Nathan Williams and his brother Kynan . Well, Fool’s Gold is putting out an instrumental  beat tape by the Williams brothers called Stay Calm on August 7th.  Thy William’s brothers project itself is called Sweet Valley. On the tape they chop and screw American Bandstand breaks on joints like the above “Total Carnage” and I guess go g-funk on “Dunk Dreams 95”.  Smoke weed everyday.

Wavves are also on the cover of Spin with Best Coast.

Sell Drugs As Wavves in “Weed Demon” Video Game

MP3: Anamanaguchi- So Bored (Wavves Cover)

Wavves’ Nathan Williams describes his new video game Weed Demon in which you traffic drugs in suburban neighborhoods as such:

“It’s like Paper Boy but you deliver drugs and you feed a monster meth at the end. I’ve been recording. Having fun with this kind of stuff on the side. Thanks to Mishka, Vice, and everyone helping me do random shit like this. Hope we can turn weed demon into an app someday.”

2012 SXSW Recap: Real Rap Vacation

Tired as fuck, I walked out of the “Killer Mike R.A.P. Music Showcase” Wednesday. After getting outside, I wondered why DJ Detox was bullshitting and not outside.  I walked back inside and he was making small talk with the GZA.

When I found the GZA and Detox, a small crowd had also found the GZA.

2010 Show Memories: Damn, I guess living in Columbus isn’t so bad.

When I sat down to recount my year, I hadn’t even really registered what I got to see. All my friends moved away. I pretty  was miserable.

I spent the majority of the year hanging out by myself.

But now looking back, I was really fortunate this year.

I got to see the Black Keys spread love and become one of the biggest rock bands in America. RJD2 played our 7 Year Anniversary. Jay Electronica came to town and did a really intimate show then got signed 7-8 months later by Jay-z to Roc Nation. I solicited Wavves’ opinion on Psychedelic Horseshit.  I witnessed  what Dame Dash’s guy, Currensy ,was doing the night Jay Electronica signed with Jay-z.  I talked to Bone after a nationally publicized arrest. Well, read away if you want.

The image source of this tattoo is  from  the cover of Chulahoma,  an ep by the Black Keys. It is on the body of a female that had a family member die of cancer.   The finger pointing it out belongs to Mary Stormer,  Key’s drummer Patrick Carney’s mother.  Mary Stormer’s son and Patrick’s brother,  Michael created the image that is tattooed on this girl.  The girl got this tattoo because Chulahoma was what got her through hard times.

The tribute to Junior Kimbrough IS a blues record.

Mary Stormer, and I explained to the girl that the band would really appreciate this.  Mrs. Stormer told me to take a picture and send it to Michael. The band was onstage so they couldn’t give the girl a hug. Continue reading
