Watch: Martin Hugo’s OJ Simpson T-Shirt Skylab Exhibit Unauthorized Preview

YouTube Preview Image

Martin Hugo is sometimes called Martin Weedsteeler because of his output in the notorious Weedsteeler camp. He heavily influenced design in Columbus DIY. He also works a day job in the fashion world. Over the past few years Martin began collecting shirts that were sold outside the OJ Simpson Trial. He will share this collection tonight at Skylab. This collection causes the viewer to think about celebrity in America, racial and social issues as well as presents a moment of outsider design.

U-Weekly did a good story about this Exhibit . I made an unauthorized video that you can watch above.  Well, he said I could do it. But I haven’t shown it to him yet.  The audio is not perfect but it’s not terrible. Consider this Martin’s Exhibit Chopped and Screwed.

Show’s Catalog
The SkyLab Gallery is located at 57 East Gay Street, 5th Floor, Columbus, OH. Show Starts At 7 Tonight.

MP3: Racist Joe aka Daymon Dodson “B*tch, You Don’t Know Sh*t!”

MP3: Bitch, You Don’t Know Shit!

At the 6th Annual Daymon Day Parade on September 17th, we will be handing out 7 inches of Racist Joe’s cult hit song Bitch, You Don’t Know Shit produced by DJ Bombay.

Song is hilarious as Daymon raps about mythical sexual exploits that resonate all the way out to Polaris over the theme music to Soap.

And during times like these, who can’t relate to the phrase, “Bitch, You Don’t Know Shit!”?

Thanks to Michael Carney for designing the label and cover. Also special thanks to Mus-i-col for the quick turn-around on pressing, and Carabar for being supportive of this record from day 1.

After the jump watch people sing “Bitch, You Don’t Know Shit” on the corner of 5th and High at the end of the 2009 Daymon Day Parade. Continue reading

This is a video of Columbus’s own Freaky Franz getting busy with Martin Weedsteeler, Grammy Award winner Michael Carney, and Andy Hams going ham in the crowd to Franz’s hit “Karl Malone”.

CCAD Graduate Michael Carney Nominated For a Grammy For Work With The Black Keys

Mike Carney is from Akron, but between his time at CCAD and work with Columbus Discount Records, Weedsteeler, and art collectives like 3CB/PBJ/BSA, Carney definitely was huge part of Columbus.

The Black Keys got 4 Grammy Nominations in all.

from the Cleveland Plain Dealer

The Black Keys, the blues-rock duo featuring Akron natives Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, received Grammy Award nominations in four categories, including best alternative music album for their latest release, “Brothers.”

The nominations were announced as part of an hour-long CBS special from Club Nokia in Los Angeles that featured performances by nominees such as Mars, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Train and Miranda Lambert. Winners will be announced on Feb. 13.
The Black Keys’ single “Tighten Up” is in the running for best rock song and best rock performance by a duo or group with vocals, while “Mud” is nominated for best rock instrumental performance.

Carney’s brother, Michael Carney, was nominated in the best recording package category for his art direction on “Brothers.”

MP3:the Unholy Two-Sullivan Killed Benoit

Say White Devil. I don’t trust you. I may have been speaking a bit blanket last week when I told Waka Flocka Flame that he was the last punk rock artist standing, Especially flawed when I live in Columbus Ohio, home of Vile Gash and Columbus Discount Records, (ie 2010 I’m still fucking with Necropolis)
I apologize but what do you do when Waka Flocka Flame is yelling at you?

In all short-sided, blatant negative hubris and a half-truths, Columbus Discount Records’ the UNHOLY TWO are actually the last Caucasian American Punk Rock band standing. I’ve seen Martin Weedsteeler declare to the heavens that only Adam Smith and Chris Lutsko are real. And Martin Weedsteeler usually only believes in the complete expliotation and disdain of music.

No, but Unholy Two doesn’t just have the cosignture of total shit maniacs. Adam Smith produced the upcoming Times New Viking album…… which even you most die-hard, it doesn’t exist if it didn’t happen at an open mic or a local’s only festival, loving your CITY to the point of not knowing or giving a fuck who MIke Repp or Jim Shepard is ……..must admit that you have seen the Times New Viking on the website you go to read about music on. And frontman Chris Lutsko is actually the only member of the Unholy Two because he no one wants to fully stand for his words but him.

Well, all half-baked hyperbole aside. Don’t take my word for it. Go see one of Unholy Two’s $$KUM OF THE EARTH release parties. November 6th at Skylab or one of their three New York shows. Or find their Nationally distributed record on shelves in finer record stores everywhere shortly there after.
When you move, at” the cool bars”, people will ask you if you have heard of or know this band.

Three Years at The Monster House

Jimi “James” Payne posted this over on Banalization.

James “Jimi” Payne

For the past three years I have lived in the Monster House, a DIY punk house in Columbus, Ohio. I co-founded the Monster House with Pat Crann, Austin Eilbeck, Ryan Eilbeck, Jeff Love, Kristina Markey, Matt O’Conke, Joe Scarbro, Dylan Taylor-Lehman, and Nick Wong. A few weeks ago the last three original roommates – besides me – left. And, as of this week, I’m moving out as well. A group of our friends still living at the Monster plan to continue hosting shows and events. On October 8th, Apache DropoutLandlordReverse The Curse, and Cody Troyan are performing there.

After “the jump” is a list of every performer who occasioned the “stage” at the Monster House in the last three years. 400 different performers have played over 150 shows booked by over 20 promoters. The list is representative of the Columbus punk scene as well as the national DIY touring circuit from 2007-10.

More than 30 people paid rent at the house during this time span.
