The article isn’t too insightful, but it’s still a good quick history lesson about Matador Records:
The idea of a label whose CDs you should pick up sight-unheard, just because of the record company behind it, is refreshing to some in a music industry dominated by headlines of major labels literally suing their own fans over downloading and coddled artists creating their own labels and distribution networks. Matador may have a reputation for effectively marketing its latest picks, but it softens the pitch by arguing for artists on their own merits and letting the bands do their own thing when they go into the studio.
