donewaiting/Los Angeles: Quasi Live

You cannot escape the watchful eye of donewaiting.com, Sam Coomes.

For the encore, Quasi brought out opening act Hella to close out the show with a bang. Setting up both drumkits on stage, Quasi and Hella ripped through Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” for lasted almost twenty minutes. The song proper ended at about 10 minutes but then descended into a mess of screaming and instrument abuse, culminating in Coomes dry humping his keyboard and then crawling off stage on all fours with Hella guitarist Spencer Seim riding Coomes like a pony (full review)

Excellent review. And it reminds me, the first time I ever saw Quasi was also the first time I saw Elliott Smith. Late 90s at Tramps, New York City. Quasi opeend the show and then played as Elliott’s backing band. It was a great night.

During Elliott’s entire set, someone in the audience kept shouting “Cowboy boots!” but emphasised the plural, so it was more like “Cowboy bootssssssssssss!” It was a reference to a lyric, and each time the guy yelled it it put a smile of Elliott’s face. He played the song. We all loved it.
