New Pearl Jam Single

Pearl Jam is contributing a song to the new Tim Burton film “Big Fish” and are selling it online via their website. More information:

  • We are going to sell just the movie version of the song – with Ed’s demo version for the b-side – as a CD single from pearljam.com. It will cost $5 bucks!
  • You can “pre-order” it beginning Monday, November 10th.
  • We’ll start mailing out Cds at the end of the month.
  • And we will sell the “Man of the Hour” CD single on pearljam.com (and only there) thru January 23, 2004.
  • We are also going to try to put together some other cool online experiences, so you’ll be able to at least listen to the song online beginning next week, and be able to download soon after. We’ll keep you posted.
  • Lastly, the soundtrack to the movie will be released on Dec. 23rd in retail stores everywhere. The score is by Danny Elfman and it includes songs by Bing Crosby, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, the Vogues, the Allman Brothers Band and Canned Heat. “Man of the Hour” is the only original song.
  • More information about the Burton/Pearl Jam collaboration found here.

With Pearl Jam existing without a record label, this may be a sign of things to come. Or maybe not.

My prediction: Pearl Jam does sign to a record label to help them figure out how to continue their overseas operations, but continues to offer things online.

    Chopster

Lambchop does a great job of lampooning Friendster with their new website. Behold Chopster! Really funny.

Attention Hipster Millionaires: Pabst Brewing Co. For Sale

As you wear your barely faded trucker hat while sipping a Pabst you often found yourself thinking, “Yes, I am motherfucking cool. This is what it’s all about.”

Why not take it a step further? Why not buy out the entire Pabst Blue Ribbon Company?!!! Read about it here.

    Tiara Week on Donewaiting.com

To celebrate the release of the new album by Tiara, we’ve been celebrating Tiara Week all week on OH Columbus!

Today on Tiara Week I asked a few Columbus musicians and writers to weigh in their opinions and thoughts about the band, and you can read that here.

    donewaiting/England: Melancholy

Steve Miller takes a hard look at some of his favorite music and realized he likes a lot of freaking sad music.

    I blame the England weather.

Outkast #1 on Billboard, Strokes Come in @ #4

    Great debut for the band.

The Strokes score a career-best week with their sophomore release, “Room on Fire.” The highly anticipated RCA album bows at No. 4 on sales of 126,000 copies. The group’s 2001 debut, “Is This It,” peaked at No. 33. While it has sold 910,000 copies to date, the set’s best showing came during the week of Christmas 2001, when it moved 41,000 copies. Current single “12:51” is up one on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks tally to No. 15.

    I predicted this last week.

The Death of the Launch Music News Area?

Launch News was a music news site I went to several times a day. They updated often and their stories were short and to the point.

However, over the last two weeks their posts have been few and far between. There’s certainly been music news, but what’s going on?

I tooled around and found this link which shows AP, Reuters and E! News being added to the site as well. I guess they’re saying goodbye to original content, and hello to the feeds? Boo.
