Michael Jackson always believed in your magic, David, so in this hour of need I hope you believe in him.

Forget trying to get your music on the radio, video games are where it’s at these days.
Now that video games are mainstream, they’ve gained the heft to reach coveted markets – often edging out radio as a marketing tool. A survey by New York marketing firm ElectricArtists earlier this year found that among its sample of video game consumers ages 13 to 32, 40 percent had bought a CD after hearing it in a video game. Jay’s new record shipped hella early because all you evil people on the internet got to it before the release date. But it only took one weekend for Jay-Z to land on top of the charts.
Jay-Z only needed one weekend to put up monster sales numbers. Last week, his new — and, if you believe him, final — CD The Black Album was rushed to stores, and more than 460,000 fans rushed out to buy it. (full story)
Side note: I once gave a copy of Jay Z Unplugged to someone for Christmas.

Delight returns to my life:
Wilco is in a New York studio recording the follow-up to its acclaimed 2002 album “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot,” Billboard.com has learned. As with that set, which was released by Nonesuch after Wilco parted ways with Warner Bros., the band is working on the sessions with producer/multi-instrumentalist Jim O’Rourke. Chris Shaw, best known for his work on Bob Dylan’s “Love and Theft,” is engineering.
The album, tentatively titled “W*lco Happens,” will most likely not be released until late spring. Tracks include “We are Finished Waiting for You Now” and “Hell Is Chrome.” (full story)
Side note: no record released in 2003 is better than Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
Side side note: all posts today will have annoying side notes.
