Stats:

  • 30 million songs sold since April.
  • iTunes now controls 70% of legal downloads market.
  • The top single person buyer at the iTunes music store has spent $29,500 by himself. WOW.

    New Features Being Added to iTunes:

  • Adding Billboard “Hot 100” charts from 1940x-present.
  • Adding 12,000 classical songs today.
  • 500,000 songs are available for download. The largest online music store in the world.
  • Pepsi and Apple are giving away 100 million songs legally beginning 2/1. 1 in 3 Pepsi bottle caps will have a code to get a free song from the store.. This is running for 60 days. Steve Jobs says: “Start Drinking.” Rob Duffy says: “Holy shit!”

    Garage Band

  • New Apple software. Complete music recording software. Digitally mix up to 64 tracks. 1,000 musical loops built in. Record live audio performances. 200 audio effects. Vintage and modern guitar amps.
  • John Mayer came out and helped demo it. Makes it less cool by 5%.
  • Will this be a serious competitor for Pro Tools? I don’t know.
  • $49. Free with every new Mac.
