Happy Birthday, Donewaiting.com

It’s time to cut the birthday cake and pin the tail on the donkey, friends. Oh yes oh yes, donewaiting.com has survived one year on the internet with only a few bruises and scraped elbows.

Our adult teeth are starting to grow in, and we’ve just started to mumble our first words. Surprisingly enough, the first words uttered by the one year old infant website was “mp3” and “Tweedy.” Go figure.

So, what happened in a year?

  • We sponsored 16 concerts and two multi-city tours.
  • We’ve added a bunch of amazing writers to the sites, including columnists in San Francisco, Los Angeles, England, Jersey City, Indianapolis, Houston, Chicago and Columbus.
  • We started a music technology blog, Signal to Noise. We cancelled the blog. We started it up again.
  • Charlesworth created one of the funniest music columns on the internet, DURST WATCH, only to quit faster than a Guns N Roses reunion.
  • We’ve turned on people to new bands, we’ve turned bands on to new audiences.
  • We’re now transmitting over 125 gigabytes of data per month. Considering we’re just sending text and the occasional image, that’s a lot of information flowing around the world.

    And oh so much more.

In a time where I hate close to 90% of the music blogs and websites out there, I think we’re doing a pretty good job keeping one eye on the national music scene, and the other eye on the local scenes of the world.

Be sure to bake an apple pie for your local donewaiting.com correspondent. No one on the site gets paid anything (including me), since working on the site is more of an afterhours/weekend labor of love. But we will take your pies. And your cakes.

Speaking of cakes, we have two more birthday cakes to eat this month. We’ve already celebrated the birthday of donewaiting.com in Chicago, Indianapolis, Dayton, and Jersey City, but now it’s time to celebrate in the city that birthed donewaiting.com. That’s right, folks, we’re blowing it up new school style in Columbus Ohio.

    Check it out, folks:

    Columbus, OHLittle Brother’s $5 Doors 9pm
w/ Silo the Huskie [mp3], Tiara, The Six Parts Seven with Brian Straw [mp3], Ken Gould [mp3]

Thanks to all the people who have visited the site over the past year. We have a lot planned for the next 12 months, and we think you’re gonna like it.

You can share your well wishes in the message board if you like: go here.

Again, thanks for helping us out on this little experiment. Just like the dude who jumped from the Empire State Building kept saying before he hit ground: so far so good, so far so good, so far so good……
