I caught Blackalicious in San Francisco in late 2000, right when their TRIPLE GOLD HOTTTTTTTTTT album “Nia” was released. Their show was great, this album is great. If you don’t own it, click here and change that right now.
After “Nia” came “Blazing Arrow.” I thought this album was good, but I didn’t find myself returning to it too much. It didn’t have the same sort of impact as “Nia” did, and it just left me cold. That made me sad.
Luckily, however, Blackalicious lead singer The Gift of Gab has just dropped his solo record, and I love it. In my revisionist history book, this is the worthy successor. “Blazing Arrow” never happened.
The name of the album is “Fourth Dimensional Rocketships Going Up”, and while I couldn’t find any mp3s for it, you can click the Amazon link and get some audio samples. Be sure to check out “Flashback.”
