The First Wave of Bands: Australia and New Zealand Strike SXSW05

I caught Australian act Gelbison at the 2004 festival twice and fell in love with them. I’m excited to discover some new favorites in this crop of Australian and New Zealand bands attending in March:

With many more still to be evaluated and invited to showcase in prestige concert slots at the world’s largest Music Festival and Conferences–South by Southwest in Austin Texas March 16-20–the first 20 Australian and New Zealand artists who have been chosen can now be revealed. Up to 30 Australian and 10 New Zealand artists in total will be offered showcase opportunities in the coming weeks.

  1. Last year there was a GREAT Australian SXSW party with a number of really good bands (I LOVED Ground Components) and good Australian beer — Cooper’s Ale. Hope they do the party again this year (and hope I can get into it!). I NEED to see Wolfmother!

  2. Aw damn, it’s not the old Coolies who did all those hilarious Simon and Garfunkel covers.
