Party of Helicopters Breaking Up

From the band:

So the next three shows look to be our last. Not quite sure on the fate of our last album either. The show at the outpost on sept 24th will be a special show with our old drummer jon finley in cory’s spot. The next night will be back to normal at the beachland ballroom and CMJ looks like it, but who really knows. Maybe we’ll go on that reunion tour in 6 months. Doubtful. Thanks to everyone who has helped us out and come to our shows over the last nine years. Shit has been tight!

Listen: Will Johnson

Centromatic singer Will Johnson has a new album out and here’s two mp3s from it: “Just to Know What You’ve Been Dreaming” | “Closing Down My House”

Will is opening up much (all?) of the upcoming American Music Club tour..

Watch: Austin City Limits Music Festival

Wowweee, the entire Austin City Limits Festival is being streamed live and for free. If you close your eyes, you can almost smell Stubb’s BBQ in the distance.

Columbus bands representin’ at CMJ

A quick glance at the initial list of performers at this year’s CMJ Music Marathon (in NYC, Oct.13-16) shows 2.5 Columbus bands are scheduled to perform. Congrats to the Black Swans, Watershed, and former Columbus resident RJD2. More bands should be announced very soon, so we’ll just have to wait and see if the Weird Beards got accepted this year.

Watch: New Interpol Video

Watch it here on MTV.com.

The song is pretty good, but the video sort of makes me want to punch myself in the face. Although, it may be the pretention that oozes from the description of the video that actually hurts my brain:

Interpol delves into uncharted territory with their new video for “Slow Hands.” Prep for the camera tricks and cutting-edge techniques in this excerpt from director Daniel Levi’s treatment:

“This is a performance video with an added twist–a play on split screens and speed changes, all capturing an intense, private performance by Interpol. The video is all about the juxtaposition of varying speeds and showing how beautiful movement is. Viewers will notice something different each time they watch.”

NPR on the new music landscape

NPR’s Morning Edition is running a 3-parter called Paying for Music in the Internet Age, where they spotlight a number of ways artists are changing their business models. Part one covers Patronage, part 2 covers micropayments and part 3, Friday, covers attempts at taxing ISPs, similar to the royalty payments on blank media.

Johnny Ramone, R.I.P.

The AP reports Johnny Ramone has passed. For those keeping track, that’s three original Ramones in four years. Hey God! What the fuck did the Ramones ever do to you?!

Keep This Channel Open

J. Robbins (Government Issue, Jawbox, Burning Airlines) works wonders with all the bands he produces and records which is why he is one of the most soughtafter talents, on par with somebody like Steve Albini. J. has a new band, Channels, which has just released it’s debut 6-song EP, Open. I swear, no matter how great the bands J. works with are, when you hear his stuff, you forgot about those bands and think, “Now THIS is how it’s supposed to be done!”. Check out an MP3 from Open, “Storytime (in the street of spies“.
