Donewaiting/Houston: Mr. Cobb Goes to Curiousa

Our main man David A. Cobb has a great write up about his experiences at the recent Curiousa tour in Houston. Drinking with the Rapture? Getting backstage access by just having an English accent? All this and more, only in Houston Calling.

Vote for Change Tickets Onsale Now

You can buy Vote for Change tour tickets right here, right now. I scored two tickets for the Springsteen/REM/Bright Eyes show in Cleveland. Total cost was $177, which is on par to what Springsteen would be charging by himself.

An interesting step in the purchase process was I had to list my occupation and employer, and agree to a few things because I gues the ticket purchase is a sort of campaign contribution.

No More White Stripes?

The rumor mill is bustling over the future of the White Stripes. Launch reports:

Jack White’s cousin claims The White Stripes may split soon.

Ben Blackwell of Detroit band The Dirtbombs told BBC 6 Music that White is planning to end his partnership with ex-wife Meg and go solo.

He said: “Jack hasn’t spoken directly to me about it but the word in Detroit is that The White Stripes are near-done.”

“He could certainly live off The White Stripes’ legacy for the rest of his life. And that’s the best motivator, he can do whatever he wants now and he doesn’t have to worry about whether it’s safe or commercially viable.” [full story]

Stories from cousins aren’t always the most reliable sources of information, but common sense dicates this day would’ve come sooner or later anyway.

New Le Tigre Track Available For Download

I guess this is what passes for a protest song in 2004. Not that it’s bad, mind you, but it’s got no message. Soundbytes from news reports and speeches aren’t exactly on par with something like, say, Dylan’s “Masters of War.” However, 42 years on, it’s nice to see that not everyone is too jaded to even care about this fabricated dirty war. A for effort, Kathleen Hanna.

Download “New Kicks” here.

The album will be out this October.

Yo La Tengo Heads Out On Tour to Support John Kerry Election

Judging from their description of the tour, it sounds a lot like the shows they’ve done at Maxwell’s for Hannukah.

The format of the show is still being worked on, and may actually be worked on until the moment it starts. But our plan/hope is to have guest musicians, singers and comedians at all the shows. If all works out, then there will be no opening act, but just a single performance during which people will come and go from the stage, playing on each others songs, etc. In this relatively informal setting, we will offer our thoughts on the election (and trust our comedian friends to do so as well, only more entertainingly).

Okay, I think you can listen to the whole album here. I think. I haven’t clicked everything.

Such Great Heights

It appears that Give Up, last year’s debut from the wonder duo of Tamborello and Gibbard (aka The Postal Service) is actually the second best selling album in Sub Pop’s history. Of course we all knew Nirvana’s Bleach had to be number one, but Give Up has surpassed a lot of other great releases to assume the number two spot.

C’mon people! Where’s the love for Chixdiggit?! (j/k)
