Jessica Simpson: The Donewaiting.com Live Review (w/ Photo)

Danica Johnson reviews Jessica Simpson’s concert in Indianapolis and you can read it here.

My favorite quote from Danica: “Jessica Simpson is beautiful and a talented singer, and hell, she may even be smart on her own time, but she is one of the worst, most vacuous role models for young girls and promotes success through the most shallow of channels and that makes me sad.”

The Donnas Continue Their Pop Transformation

In the donewaiting message board I compared the new Sahara Hotnights album to The Donnas, circa 2003. I was trying to say that the new Hotnights album had no heart or soul, and was processed average music just like the most recent Donnas record.

The Donnas continue their transformation into the pop world in October, with the release of their new album that has Butch Walker producing, the same guy that produced the new Avril Lavigne record.

Game over, The Donnas!

Indie Rockers Favorite Summer Albums

Nerve has a list of various indie musicians picking their favorite summer albums. You’ll get the lists from the likes of Vanderslice, The Long Winters, Cursive, and many more.

Rick James, R.I.P.

Drudge and CNN are saying James was found dead in his home this morning by his caretaker. I would have bet dollars to doughnuts that George Clinton would have gone first.

Pylon Came Back (For A Night)

What a surprise and I’m totally pissed that no one thought to invite me! Legendary Athens, GA dance punk band Pylon reunited for an intimate show earlier this week, and have no plans to play another (or another or another) anytime soon. This week, the people of Athens were the luckiest people on Earth. A few more details over at The Day Jobs.

David Cross Directs Black Keys Video

Check it:

The Black Keys have released the first video for their forthcoming third full-length, “Rubber Factory.” Conceived and directed by comedian David Cross, the “10 A.M. Automatic” clip is a brilliantly understated take on the world of public access television.

Watch it here.

Money money money….MONEY!

From today’s Chicago Tribune (I’m just goig to print the whole thing since it’s short and the Trib is subscription only):

Rock stars, like businesses, have contract disputes. Former Wilco drummer Ken Coomer sued the band’s lead singer, Jeff Tweedy, for breach of contract, claiming that Tweedy didn’t hold up his side of the bargain when Coomer split from the Chicago-based band in 2001. Coomer claims that according to an agreement band members signed in 1995, members who leave the group sell their shares of the “corporation” to remaining members for “par value.”

Coomer claims that Tweedy has refused to compensate him despite numerous requests. He’s asking for more than $50,000.

A spokeswoman for Wilco said the band had no comment. (Reported by Jim Kirk)

Can I buy some stock in that “corporation?” I think it’d be a wise investment. Then I could ask the chairman of the board why the hell Wilco ain’t playing in their hometown of Chicago this summer!

Leave Your Cameraphones At Home

This report of a Black Eyed Peas concert disturbs me. It was a show for the DNC sponsored by the RIAA, and each person’s cell phone was checked for a camera. If they had one, they couldn’t enter the show.

You people are killing me. [credz boingboing]

Today, We Rejoice With Meat + Music

Tomorrow Today is Donewaiting.com’s first non-benefit sponsored concert since March. I’m really excited about it. We’ll have free food (w/ paid admission) from 7-9pm, and after that it’s all about the bands. I hope you can make it.
