Crooked Fingers: New Song Samples Available

As reported previously, the new Crooked Fingers album is nearing completion. Yesterday, the band put up sample mp3s of new material here. If I’ve got one complaint, it’s that the samples are too damned short.

Politcal Concert Series in the Works for Swing States?

Here’s some choice highlights from the LA Times Article:

Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, R.E.M., Pearl Jam and a deep roster of other rock stars will unite for politically minded concerts this fall that will give voice to dissatisfaction with the Bush administration … The all-star rock shows, which are expected to begin in October and target campaign swing states, are in the planning stage but were confirmed by half a dozen music industry sources who spoke on condition of anonymity … Other artists expected to join the lineup include Earle, the Dave Matthews Band, the Dixie Chicks, Bright Eyes, Ani DiFranco, Death Cab for Cutie and International Noise Conspiracy.

The article gives a good overview of other bands and their political agendas. If you’re not registered for LA Times, you can use Bug Me Not.

Wilco Tour Starts Taking Shape

First batch of dates listed here, y’all.

New MP3 from The Cinema Eye

The Cinema Eye has posted an MP3 from their first full length, “Some Nerve,” out October 26. Download it: “Not a Word”

Lou Reed: Dance Remix + Video

Lou Reed’s “Satellite of Love” was remixed for the dance floor and got a strange South Park-like video to go along with it. Full details here and the video is there.

(PS: Yes, I’m back from the San Diego Comic Con. Thanks for asking.)

Radiohead 35 years ago?

I was hanging out with a vinyl junkie friend last weekend. I asked him to play something I’d probably never heard before. His pick was a gorgeous song called “Fly” by “JK & Co”. I’ll be damned if it didn’t sound like The Beatles with Thom Yorke on vocals. Check out this clip and see if you agree.

I read up on the band and discovered that the singer/songwriter was a 15 year old named “Jay Kaye”. He recorded the albumin 1968 in Vancouver after leaving his Las Vegas home on a “quest for enlightenment.”

AC Newman August tour dates

The frontman of “The New Pornographers” is on tour this summer. I have not yet heard the album he released this year (The Slow Wonder), but I’ve heard nary a bad review. Plus, he’s playing some of these dates with a band I won’t shut up about.
