  • Donewaiting.com Audioscrobbler Group

    What a great idea!

Audioscrobbler is a plugin you add to WinAmp, iTunes, and other mp3 listening programs on your computer. What it does is send to the Audioscrobbler website a list of all the songs you’ve listened to. Other people can view the information.

Donewaiting.com message board user blutroniq created a Donewaiting.com Audioscrobbler group. So if you join this group, your playlist will be added to the group. We can then see what musician is the most listened to in the DW community. Check out and join the group here. It’s really, really easy.

    What’s Up, Donewaiting.com Message Board?

Time for you to become an active member in our message board. Come on now.

A few discussions worth your time:

And my favorite quote of the last two weeks. Regarding the new Van Hunt album: “It is HOT HOT HOT R&B … It’s the last thing I needed to hear while I’m secluded in this dark little office. I almost tried to stick my ween in a usb port.

    The Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy Reader

Traditional interviews have bored me lately, so I like to read these sort of things:

It was at this point, after seeing how gracious he was being with me, that I decided I couldn’t just do an interview. After a few more ridiculous ideas, the concept evolved to what was eventually done. I would come up with a list of literary characters (with Eden’s help), and Will would compare them to various Palace and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy songs. I think he appreciated my effort to come up with something original, and the results were better than I ever thought they would be. It is with great pleasure that I present you The Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy Reader.

The Sun’s Singer Lashes Out at Their Label (Warner Bros.)

The Sun are a Warner Bros. band from Columbus that put out a pretty good EP last year. They got a little bit of buzz around the country, and had the honor of opening for Hot Hot Heat and The Flaming Lips for a bunch of shows.

In today’s Columbus Alive, our alternative weekly newspaper in town, lead singer Chris Burney writes an unprovoked letter to the editor and slams Warner Bros and major labels in general. Here’s a few of my favorite quotes:

There was a major label ?bidding war? for my band. We played for every record executive in shit town after really only being a band for three hours. We took a small, smart deal with Warner Bros. looking to have a career. This was stupid. If you are ever in this position, look those liars in the eye and tell them what they want to hear. Once you have gained their trust, take every penny you can and save it for rainy days ahead.

    …..

Playing for dicks and using up chickenheads on the coasts was fun to laugh about with Sam, Brad and Bryan, but the best shows I have ever played were either in someone?s basement, living room, or at Bernie?s.

    ….

I had to sell my guitars for gas money so I could drive to St. Louis to sleep on the floor in my mom?s apartment. Thanks Warner. Love your family, friends and, for God?s sake, peace.

Read the full letter here. Also, there’s a great discussion going on about the letter and the Sun in our message board. Check it out and respond here.

Like I said, I have no idea why Burney wrote the letter. I also have no idea what he means by using up chickheads on the coasts. Either way, it’s an interesting look inside of a young band working the major label system, maybe on the verge of falling apart.

Downhill Battle and Grey Tuesday Present BannedMusic.org

    These guys are relentless:

Bannedmusic.org is a peer-to-peer collaboration that makes it impossible for the major record labels to ban or censor musical works. When record labels send legal threats to musicians, record stores, or websites, we will post the music here for download and publicize the censorship attempt. There is a clear fair use right to distribute this music, and for the public to decide whether current copyright law is serving musicians and the public, they need to be able to hear what’s being suppressed.

Wilco’s “A Ghost is Born” Has Been Leaked

Yes, the new Wilco album has leaked onto your favorite file sharing services. And yes, I’ve downloaded it. One song is missing, and there’s no telling if this is the final version of the record or what. My initial reactions went from “This isnt Wilco” to “I hate it” to “I love it” to “I don’t know what to think!”

I had told myself I wasn’t going to listen to the mp3s until the album came out. But, when a mysterious someone sent me an IM saying “I have it, do you want it?” how could I say no? Like a kid who knows where their parents hide the gifts, I went ahead and spoiled Christmas.

It’ll take me some time to digest this record, so I’m not making any judgements just yet. Wilco is my favorite band, I still stand behind the statement that “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” is the best record released in the last few years. So I need some time with these mp3s. And like I said, this might not even be the finished product. But I’m a Wilco junkie, an addict, and I’ll take whatever I can get.

A few things I will say: there are definite changes from early versions of “Muzzle of Bees” and “Handshake Drugs” that I’d previously acquired. This record relies more on piano, and there’s two ten minute songs on it.

And that’s all I will say right now. If you’d like, discuss the mp3s in our message board. June can’t come fast enough.
