  • Has it really already been ten years?

In advance of the ten year anniversary of Kurt Cobain?s death, Uncut is publishing an unearthed interview.

I love it. My whole family takes it. ! Since online pharmacies have appeared a lot of opportunities appeared which have to be implemented.

“I’d like to (collaborate with Love),” he said in the interview eight months before his suicide. “But to tell you the truth, I would rather just quit my band and join Hole.
“When I have played music with them, there’s a level of connection that’s a little bit higher than with anyone else I ever played with,” he added. (full story)

Not exactly brand new news, but it does tend to support some of the allegations made towards the end of Charles Cross? biography of Cobain, ?Heavier Than Heaven.? Man, this is depressing. Isn?t there any good news goin? on today?

    House Approves New Indecency Laws

When I’m an old geezer will I talk to little children about the glory days when the United States had freedom of speech?

The House yesterday approved sharply higher fines for broadcasters and entertainers who break indecency rules, as Congress moves closer to cracking down on incidents that are deemed to be obscene or profane.

The Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act of 2004, which passed 391-22, would give the Federal Communications Commission the ability to impose fines of up to $500,000 per violation, up from the current $27,500. Because many shows are syndicated and played on numerous stations around the country, fines could run into the millions of dollars. (full story)

The Bill was approved in the House, and the next step is for it to get approved in the Senate. After that, it’s over. (Discuss here.)

Dave Blood of Dead Milkmen Dead from Apparant Suicide

From the Dead Milkmen message board:

This morning Dave Blood is no longer with us. David is my brother. Since the breakup of the band David has never really found his niche in life.

My brother was a smart clever and talented person. Inner peace has seemed to elude him for the last many years.

Sometime last night David chose to end his life.
He left a note that I don’t know all of what it said,he was not elaborate-but he said he just could not stand to go on any longer.

Our mother passed away at the end of January and maybe David just had had enough.

There will be a memorial service in a few weeks. I will try to remember to come to this board and post it.It will be in the Delaware County area.

Please pray for the respose of my bother’s soul; that he now has the peace that seemed to elude him most of his life.

I want to say that one of the shiniest parts of David’s life was being a Dead Milkman and having that claim to fame. And the fans who appreciated the talent and time that went into making the band rise above the ordinary-thank you all for making my brother feel and know that he was indeed somebody.

    F&%k Cancer!

Jackie Farry’s name may not mean anything to you but in the mid-90s you couldn’t look at a CD booklet by a “cool” band and NOT see her name in the “Thank You” list. During that time, Jackie was a tour manager for bands like Hole and Stereolab, she hosted her own short-lived MTV show Superock, and was Frances Bean’s nanny.

Jackie was recently diagnosed with Mutiple Myeloma, a rare form of cancer. “I have been too sick to work and I’m faced with some nasty financial problems,” Jackie says on her website. “In an effort to creatively raise some money, The Amazing Raffle was born. A portion of the proceeds will benefit other young people with cancer.”

For your $12 donation, you have the opportunity to win a bunch of really cool prizes ranging from concert tickets to shows like Bonaroo and Coachella to guitars to magazine subscriptions to meetings with casting directors, entertainment lawyers, etc.

[Thanks to Annie Oakley for posting about this worthwhile cause in the Donewaiting message board.]

    Merge Records Turns Sweet 15

Merge Records are celebrating their 15 year anniversary with a huge concert weekend and a 3 CD compilation:

JULY 13 sees the release of OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER, a Merge Records 15-Year Anniversary Compilation, and it’s a whopper: 3 (count’em THREE) CD’s, with the first two discs compiling classics from the first 15 years and the third disc containing rare and previously unreleased tracks (many recorded specifically for this comp) from your favorite Merge artists, including SUPERCHUNK, SPOON, CROOKED FINGERS, CAMERA OBSCURA, M. WARD and many more!

They’ll also be doing a 4 night festival in Chapel Hill starting 07/29. Info for that is still coming.

(All of this info came from their newsletter, btw)

    Jack White Pleads Guilty

White must pay a $500 fine, plus $250 in court costs, and Humphries ordered him to attend anger management classes, which White will arrange privately. (full story)

    My favorite/lamest part:

“This was a personal matter and not a press promotion,” White said after the hearing, reading from a handwritten note tucked in his fedora. “I regret allowing myself to be provoked to the point of getting into a fistfight but I was raised to believe that honor and integrity mean something and that those principles are worth defending.”

I caught the Von Bondies Sunday night and thought they put on a pretty tight set. Nothing that blew me away, but I definitely enjoyed their show. By the way, their new album is out today.

The Lollapalooza Beast Rears Its Ugly Head Once More

    A longer-than-I-should-excerpt excerpt:

Lollapalooza organizers are aiming to “blend success and commerciality with credibility and meaning and risk taking” as they move forward with plans for the 2004 edition of the festival, William Morris Agency senior VP Marc Geiger tells Billboard.com. Addressing his return to the booking process after not participating in last year’s edition, Geiger says, “I can assure you, as long as I’m involved, it wouldn’t be anything but very cutting edge.”

Geiger would not comment on specific bands rumored to be appearing on the Perry Farrell-reared event this summer, such as the Pixies, the Cure, Nine Inch Nails or Sonic Youth, the latter of whom is said to be very close to joining the bill. But he did weigh in on the merits of a potential lineup of veteran rock acts:

“What I really want to tell you is that most of the artists that commercial alternative radio broke in the late ’90s suck and are over,” he offers. “If you want to program anything with substance, you’re dealing with artists that have some kind of meaning and legacy, and ultimately, they’re all going to be perceived as old, other than Jack White and a few others.” (full story)

I wonder how many dates will have to be cancelled this time around?

    Swizzle-Stick is Back (Again)

Yes, we said Swizzle Stick was “back” a few months ago, but this time we mean it. I have the word from the site’s founder, Chip Midnight, who also writes for our site.
