Son Volt returns, SXSW show on tour schedule
Jay Farrar disbanded Son Volt in 1998 and went the solo route. In October, Farrar recruited Brad Rice (guitar–Tift Merritt, Ryan Adams), Andrew Duplantis (bass?Jon Dee Graham, Meat Puppets, Bob Mould), Eric Heywood (pedal steel?Son Volt, Calexico) and Dave Bryson (drums?Canyon) to join Son Volt. A new studio album is due in mid-2005. Son Volt performs at the Mound City Music Fest in St.Louis on December 11. Their next scheduled date? You guessed it … SXSW. More details to follow (Jay Farrar’s site lists the show date as March 13 but that is not within the dates that SXSW is taking place).

Donewaiting.com SXSW Music Festival Blog Returns
SXSW is four months away, but we’re starting to get reports on bands attending. Because of that, I’ve launched a quick no-frills version of our SXSW05Music Festival blog.
Last year we became one of the top destinations for SXSW news and information, and this year we plan to do it again. BIGGER and BETTER, no less!

Kasabian @ SXSW05
I don’t know anything about Kasabian, but Chip tells me they’re gonna be huge next year.
Armed with Top 10 singles, a gold-certified self-titled UK debut that?s sold over 200,000 copies (100,000 in the first two weeks alone) and sell-out shows all over England, Kasabian have now set their sights on the US.
The group will embark on two major tours next Spring coinciding with the release of their album Kasabian on March 8, 2005 here in the States. A month-long national trek supporting The Music is set to kick-off mid-February in NYC and will take Kasabian through cities including Detroit, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco and Los Angeles before winding down in Austin for SXSW. Two Cow Garage Returning Next Year
Two Cow Garage’s performance at the ’04 festival was one of the highlights of my visits. The band sent a newsletter to announce they’ll be back in ’05:
We hope you consider us just one small reason to attend the best 4 or 5 days anywhere. We’re happy to tell you that we’ve accepted an invitation to play a showcase at SXSW 2005 in Austin.
Hopefully we’ll get more details as we get closer to the event. Until then, you can download one of my favorite songs by the band: Alphabet City.

Slobberbone Calling It Quits
From their site:
And in the spirit of the New Year and, thusly, of new beginnings, I wish to tell you of two very significant aspects to this year-end’s festivities: 1.) it will be the last New Year’s show at the Barley House as we know it, as it will begin shortly after the beginning of the year to stretch its atrophied tendons, muster the strength of its years, and pull itself up from its foundation to begin its tortoise-like journey to its new location a few blocks to the north. Please help us to stink up the old room New Years – style one more time. 2.) this will be Slobberbone’s last Barley House and, indeed, our last Dallas show ever. We too have decided it’s time to stretch some tendons and raze the walls we have built and maintained for so long.
