At every festival like SXSW there is sure to be an anti-festival put on by people who are upset about the way things are run. One of the many anti-festivals taking place at this year’s SXSW is the Heart of Texas Quadruple Bypass Music festival organized by music video director Adam Brewer.
Among Brewer’s beefs: rising wristband costs year after year. For $8 a show (free to those with SXSW badges), you can check out some of the best Texas (and other states) has to offer and it all takes places smack dab in the middle of 6th Street (yes, the same street where SXSW goes down).
The three artist we recommend you check out:
* Bob Schneider – the former Mr.Sandra Bullock has two solo releases under his belt and is a mainstay in the Austin music scene. He’s performing Thursday, March 17 at 1am at Spill (212 E. 6th Street)
* Modena Vox – Representin’ Columbus, Ohio. Modena Vox is set for a Saturday, March 19 show at 9pm at Treasure Island (413 E.6th Street)
* Sunward – Features former members of Deathray Davies and Buck Jones (damn, I saw Buck Jones at Lollapalooza many years ago). Check out some Granddaddy meets Flaming Lips style tunes on MySpace and catch the band on Thursday, March 16 at 6pm at Platinum X (419 E.6th Street).
Be sure to also check out Katherine Schell out of Chicago, you can hear her music at http://www.katherineschell.com
FWIW I believe this is last year’s information, Bob Schindler (sp?) played last year’s Heart of Texas, and the date mentioned above synchs with that…
Duh, guess I could have looked at the URL that this is an archived post…
