Good restaurants? Here’s a suggestion.

Last year Duffy, Reno, Celebrity Chris and myself were in search of a good burger on 6th Street. We asked around (I think it was after The Frames show @ Red-Eye Fly) and somebody said, “You can’t beat the Jackalope for a good burger.” During the afternoon, the Jackalope appears to be your average bar with a menu of things like sandwiches and chicken wings. We asked one of the bartenders how we could order a burger and she said, “Go down that hallway. They’ll take your order there.” We did as told and entered the kitchen/takeout area. The dudes make the burgers were punk rock dudes – earrings/tattoos/etc and were listening to loud music on the CD player. They gave us a recommendation (can’t remember which burger they suggested) and it was AMAZING. We ate on the back patio as the drizzle started to come down. I kid you not, maybe the best burger I’ve ever had. We decided that if we returned to SXSW in 2006, the Jackalope would be a regular stopping point for lunch/dinner.

Here’s the menu

So, we’re pretty down with finding new food spots on 6th Street (or the immediate vicinity – we took a scary cab ride to a bad part of town for some average Mexican food last year and would rather stay local this year).

We’d love to hear some suggestions about “hidden” places like the Jackalope (and if you can suggest a menu item, all the better).

SXSW. Here we come.
