  1. I really wish SXSW would release their list already. I’m very underwhelmed by the names I’ve seen listed so far and I know, I just know, that when I see the “real” list I’ll be salivating.

  2. i have no contacts and this is not offical leak or anything but feel like its gonna come out tommorow, with the new chronicle mabye….since they announced that it was gonna be announced this week right?

  3. legend of the fall

Here’s an article about why the list hasn’t been announced yet.

It’s crunch time, though, and SXSW Music Creative Director Brent Grulke admits as much. “I’m getting a degree of nervousness from the industry now,” says Grulke, just back from international music-biz bazaar MIDEM in Cannes, France. “It’s like, ‘Come on guys, we’ve gotta get our promotional campaign under way!'”

  4. I just read that article. SXSW is the greatest music festival, but that guy is a jerk. No music festival can be an “industry event” without music fans. THEY ARE the industry…not a handful of suits. And furthermore, I guarantee that the majority of people that SXSW makes its money off of are simply music fans, not label reps. I think it is shameful that with the level of financial success that SXSW has achieved that this guy would act like, ‘Oh, I’m just nice enough to allow poor, pathetic music fans into my special party even though they really aren’t supposed to be there.’ There is no chance that this festival would have grown into anything close to what it is without the support of music fans, and Gulke needs a serious reality check. For now, we can continue to enjoy SXSW’s annually increasing badge and wristband prices.

  5. SXSW has always identified the Festival as an industry event. They’ve never marketed to “fans.” Grulke coulda been more diplomatic but he didn’t say anything new. Bitch all ya want, but its the big money the registrants fork over for badges that pays for club rentals and band back-lines.

You can have a great time at SXSW just going to all the free day parties, so who really cares when the publish any lists or who they market to.
