I’ve written for Wonkavision Magazine for a few years now but have yet to meet anybody involved with the magazine. That shall change. In conjunction with The Syndicate, Wonkavision has put together a hell of a daytime party featuring: Mando Diao, Panthers, Rocky Votolato, Your Black Star, and more to be announced.
Here are the details:
Why are they waiting so long for wristbands to go on sale????
Just to piss you off.
Here’s my theory:
If the wristbands are going to be sold at Waterloo, they’ll go on sale on Monday. The reason why is that the weekends are when Waterloo does most of its business – it’s always crowded on Saturdays/Sundays at Waterloo, and Waterloo wouldn’t want wristband sales to cut into their music sales. I’m sure they’re getting a cut, but selling music is their bread and butter. They wouldn’t go on sale on Tuesday either, because that’s new release day, and they probably get a good deal of business then too. And they wouldn’t sell them on Wednesday either because that’s the last day of the month, and by Tuesday evening, it’d be obvious that they’d be going on sale the following morning(the Chronicle ad states they will go on sale before the end of the month). They’ve been trying to keep things uncertain so they can suprise us and avoid having people line up for hours on end, which would happen if they sold them on Wednesday. So Monday seems to make sense to me. Keep in mind, this is just my theory and I may be completely wrong here.
Yaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrgggggghh.
Oh, interesting theory, by the way.
fogel, you are the man. have the wristbands always gone on sale in the morning when Waterloo opens? I can’t believe that just a few years ago you could just get them at Albertons!
i agree with fogel’s theory. also, one would think if they were selling the wristbands somewhere other than waterloo this year, they would have said so to keep us from bugging the folks at waterloo about it!
oh, but what about the possibility of a weekend midnight sale to avoid the normal weekend business hours?!
I think you’re right DLC. They’re definitely going to sell them at Waterloo, due to the fact that they have haven’t excluded them as a possibility. If they weren’t, they would have explicitly stated that “wristbands WILL NOT be sold at Waterloo.”
I also thought about a midnight sale as well, but would Waterloo be able to get enough of their staff to work those hours? I just don’t see that as a possibility.
Meh. Who’s to say what’s actually going to happen. For all I know, they could go on sale at 11:59pm Wednesday night.
I’d be stunned by a late night sale, the point is to beat scalpers, not screw people who would’ve bought but were sleeping!
I think Fogel’s theory is likely, with a possibility of selling some either Sun night. I neveer noticed before today that the Chronicle’s ad said they’d sell them before the end of Feb. It’s all a hassle, but as long as I can get there from Houston in time to buy my 2, I’ll be happy.
Was out of town all weekend, breathing a sigh of relief that they didn’t go on sale while I was gone. Cmon Monday!
Looks like my theory *might* be correct. I’m just hoping they announce it before 10am so I can call into work for a sick day. Next year, I’m getting a fucking badge. I’m so sick of this bullshit.
I really hope you’re right – I can’t take this shit any more.
I heard a rumor they’re now on sale at waterloo. can anyone confirm>?
http://www.austinist.com/archives/2007/02/26/sxsw_wristbands_on_sale.php – Wristbands ARE on sale now.
I showed up at Waterloo this morning just before 10am, went inside when they opened, bought a few CDs, and asked the clerk if wristbands were going on sale today. He gave me a “you got me” shrug and asked if I’d signed up for the SMS list. Who knows if he was being truthful, but that’s irrelevant now, because I got my wristbands! Showed up at ~12:25pm and got out about an hour later.
