We’re one week away from the SXSW music festival. Hard to believe it’s here already.
Use the comments of this post to ask questions, post comments, show announcements, etc.

how about any secret show and special guest rumors? an obvious one is spoon at antones wednesday 1am.
what’s the best way to score a wristband between Thursday afternoon and Wednesday evening (before the festival starts)? one week to go and I’m still without. Are badgeholders able to buy one again this year?
I think Scissor Sisters is a very likely surprise guest on 3/17, as they are in Dallas and Houston early next week for shows.
Volcom Ent. & Jackalope Free Beer Party
Thursday March 15th
At The Jackalope, 404 6th st
2pm Crash Gallery
3pm Birds Of Avalon
4pm Totimoshi
5pm Valient Thorr
6pm special guest
One week out and still no word on Chaves. I really thing they aren’t playing. And if they do play, and I miss it, I think I might weep.
Are the Faint & the Rapture doing any secret shows other than their showcase slots?
DJC-
They will sell more wristbands for $175 next Wednesday at the Convention Center…best bet is to hang out in that neck of the woods (plenty going on around 6th and Red River) and check in there every hour or two. If I were a betting man, I’d say they should go onsale some time around 1pm.
jeff – that was me that was asking about the wristbands but thanks for the info. I will definitely be loitering around there early Wednesday.
does anyone know if the Good The Bad and The Queen are playing anyother shows, besides their official showcase??
is this the first sxsw with an extra hour of light? (daylight savings time)
is it better to stick with trying to see one showcase instead of trying to catch bands in between showcases?
it seems like getting around is pretty easy and the weather seems decent … would you recommend wearing flip flops during the entire week? or would that just be a bad idea? does it get cold at night where you’ll need a jacket or sweater? the temps say 37-40 in austin at night.

I found out two of the “special guests” by doing some web searches. the Arts and Crafts showcase special guest headliner on March 16th at Habana Calle 6 is the Dears (who are also playing Stubbs with Bloc Party). Bummer no Broken Social Scene.
also the Clash Magazine Special Guest on their showcase on March 15th at Karma Lounge is the Sunshine Undergound.
all this can be seen on http://www.myspace.com/thedears
http://www.myspace.com/clashmagazine
anybody heard if maybe Interpol or Jarvis Cocker are some of the other special guests?
also heard Kings of Leon and the Fratellis are playing the Spin party.
for the vice records showcase with Bloc Party … it says free with badges. does that mean there’s a cover charge for wristband holders? most showcases or parties say free but should i plan on possible cover charges at some shows even with the wristband?
any word on Interpol or did they back out?
SFGal-
It’s really starting to warm up here in Austin, but considering the amount of walking around you’ll probably be doing all week, in addition to the general filth of the clubs after a couple of days of spilled beer, I urge you to leave your flip flops back at the hotel in favor of some comfy footwear. And definitely bring a light jacket/sweater for the evenings. They’ve been dipping into the mid 50s lately.
Definitely bring a sweater/jacket for the evenings and wear comfy shoes, for example tennis shoes over sandals because after four straight days of standing on the concrete listening to bands your feet will be hurting.
Also, wristbandholders should NEVER have to pay a cover for any official showcase listed on the sxsw.com website.
i guess i am getting old. i don’t recognize most of these bands. are there any unknowns playing sxsw in the fugazi/old sonic youth/white stripes vain? i am not really into the arcade fire/dexy’s midnight genre. any help would be great.
is yoko ono still playing? MSTRCRFT? pete townshend?
La Zona Rosa on Saturday…”thee spree” @ 11:00pm — is this Polyphonic Spree? Also, La Zona has a “Special Guest” @ 12:30 –any inside info?
La Zona Saturday “Special Guest” @ 12:30 = Satellite Party
yoko–thee spree is yep, polyphonic.
pete townsend??? is he still playing?? im guessing he is a special guest somewhere or where?? and what was that about jarvis cocker maybe playing a show?? need more info bout that
any tips for parking? i’m staying with my brother in north austin and don’t want to have to pay for a cab all the way home every night. thanks!
any good SXSW film blogs??? wanna hear about The Grindhouse
kristin, i always park in one of the parking garages near the convention center. it’s a central location and once you pay $7 (i think) it’s good for all day and you can come and go. the only disadvantage, sometimes at the end of the night it can be hell getting out of there!
Does anyone know about cover charges at the evening showcases? I’m going without a badge or wristband, and I know SXSW Baby said that if you get to the showcase early, most of them have a few spots for people who pay covers. Any tips on finding out what the covers might be?
any word on if david byrne will be playing a show somewhere?
sfgal – is it better to heop showcases or stay in one spot? If you have a wrisstband, you will not be able to club hop every hour unless you love stuff more obscure and weird than 90% of music nerds like. I try and see someone the first half of the night, then go to another for the rest of the night. Usually the later at night, the longer the line as people try to get into their 4th and 5th choices. So always try and show up to your main band a few bands ahead, plus usually odds are pretty good the band or two before them wont suck, and might even be great.
DO NOT wear flip flops all week. You will hate yourself, esp if you plan on going to day parties too. go for comfort over style. I’ve learned this the hard way. Nothing’s worse than seeing a kick ass band at 1am on sat, and not remembering it because you’re feet are destroying you.
what will covers be? some places seem to make it up on the spot. I can tell you last year friggin Snow Patrolat Stubbs was $35. A smaller club with a long line for Editors was $25, Morrissey was $50, and I got in to see Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs for $15. Be prepared to arrive early and be flexible, and hopping somewhere else at 10pm, make sure you have back up plans.
Thanks to everyone for the advice on flip flops! i will remember not to wear them all week and bring shoes.
how’s austin weather this time of year? it looks mild … similar to california weather. does it get humid?
Thanks butcherboy – I don’t really care about the big names so hopefully some of the lesser-known stuff (more obscure and weird than at least 75% of the other music nerds, I hope) will have lower covers. Will calling the venues in advance help at all?
Pete Townsend is playing La Zona no doubt. (heard from sound guy who will be mixing him)
Last year I had a wristband and walked in and out of shows all night. (Best still to have plan A, B, C, D, E and maybe F)
No wait for Trail or Gomez last year. Club hopping was by far the best experience I had…as well as meeting Thurston Moore walking by himself with his guitar up the hill on 8th and then smoking a cigarette with albert hammond on the street in front of spiros.
This will be my first year for the day parties…so im not sure if you can “Party Hop” with all of the RSVPs I’ve sent in.
Anyone Day Party Hop last year? Successful? There seems to be a lot of cool day parties and I’d like to go to a few.
Townsend has to be playing La Zona at 6 on thursday – rachel fuller is his girlfriend and they do that attic jam together.
covers – calling in advance prob wont help, but worth a shot. I was in line one year at Stubbs for Yo La Tengo, Cat Power and Spoon, and they made it up on the spot based on how long the line was. Some other places may be more standard or base it on demand. I honestly have no clue, and I think it’s the club’s discretion.
Anyone know how to get a laminate for the Spin party at Stubbs on friday?
The Special Guests with Rachel Fuller are:
MARTHA WAINWRIGHT
WILLY MASON
SEAN LENNON
MIKA
PETE
…per her website, http://www.intheattic.tv/rachel/archive/view.cfm?year=2007&month=2
can anybody recommend a good scheduling app that includes the day shows, etc. Not crazy about the podbop app as it seems to be missing some shows. Also wondering about a laminate for Spin.
Regarding footwear: comfortable shoes are important, but if you can swing it, I would also recommend multiple different pairs of shoes. Blisters are caused by lots of pressure or rubbing in the same place, and if you rotate through three or four pairs of shoes you’ll also rotate the spots you’re irritating. Arch inserts can be a godsend for those with plantar fasciitis or any sort of arch pain. (If you already have inserts, consider getting new ones. In my experience, they’re only good for a few months of daily use.)
Think about how many pairs of socks you’ll probably need, double it, and then bring that many. Fresh socks also help prevent blisters. The same goes for T-shirts; when I was feeling all grungy last year but didn’t have time to shower, changing into clean socks and T-shirt made me feel like a new man.
Anything cool going on Tuesday night? Are they doing a music opening/film closing party like they did last year with Sleater-Kinney? (That was a highlight of the week for me.)
stolen from another blog –
Questions that I still would like to answer before reaching the mecca:
Should I bring my laptop everywhere?
Is it ok to record audio/video?
Is it ok to re-broadcast sed audio/video?
How will I be able to see the 6 panels I want at the same time?
What is/are the etiquette/morays of SXSW?
J Train,
Two Cow Garage, Grand Champeen, Richmond Fontaine and Ol’ Yeller are playing at Beerland on Tuesday. Totally wish I could go to that, but not getting in ’till Wednesday. Definitely hit that one up, should be righteous.

tuesday night is chamillionaire (6:30pm), gutta gang (7:20pm), and cyrill neville & tribe 13 (8:10pm) at the recording academy.

Also, when else is Bloc Party playing.

jenn = I find that a good ol’ fashioned homeade spreadsheet with all the stuff you want to see works fine.. or just a simple word document. but maybe i’m old fashioned, myself.
day parties = this year is going to be INSANE. so much more to do during the day and so many different bands to see. I’m going wristbandless this year for the first time (major rip-off, especially after you’ve been going for 8 years) so I’m budgeting for most shows that I want to see to be $30 and then just staying at the same venue all night… and drinking . . . lots of drinking. hahaha
Getting really close!! I haven’t seen a good running list of bands people plan/want to see as part of their SXSW experience this year.
Is there already a blog somewhere that is covering this?
If not, can we start a thread here?
Two bands I look forward to:

Hear me now and thank me later! DR. SCHOLL’S GEL INSERTS! And I totally agree with changing out several different pairs of shoes.
Thanks for all the great info, everyone, on the “secret guest” gigs. That was gonna be my homework assignment this weekend, but y’all saved me a lot of time. In past years, it was a no-no for anyone to have more than one official showcase, so a lot of those “special guests” were secret 2nd gigs for the more popular bands. Could also indicate an open time slot that still needs to be filled. I agree that the Antone’s one is most likely gonna be Spoon. Seems they’re being less stealth about it this year. “The Spree,” “A. Winehouse.” Duh. LOL
And yes, the day parties this year are going to be INSANE! I have more daytime conflicts than at night! I’m not a big fan of beer, so the day parties w/ bands I want to see, that also mention booze or an open bar are my top priorities! And free food.
Parking will be a bitch on the weekdays, during the day. I’d stick to the conv. center garages. After 5 or 6 PM and during the day on Saturday, it will be much easier. Park in any lot or garage that is most convenient for you. I like to park closest to where I believe my nite will end (either near Stubb’s or La Zona Rosa). You think I’m gonna give up where I know where to park for free? MWA HA HA!
My schedule is on an Excel spreadsheet – separate pages for day and nite.
My #1 rule: Don’t see anyone local. I live here, I’m lucky that I can immediately scratch anyone from Austin off my list.
Rule #2: Do what YOU want to do, not what your friends want to do. Traveling in a group when there is alcohol involved? Not pretty. And leads to bickering and disappointments.
Matt – Chamillionaire? on Tues. 3/13? Where did you hear that?
visiting sxsw for the first time this year (from philly). hoping to see high dials and patrick watson. any local neo-psych bands to recommend?
also, i am sure most of the featured clubs are terrific but, are there any i should avoid? you know, bad sound, bad beer, no food, BAD SOUND?
Spoon @ Antone’s (3/14, 1AM) is a sure thing, as it’s posted on the Merge website:
http://www.mergerecords.com/news.php?month=Mar%202007#259
The site also consolidates all shows (day & night) for Merge bands @ SXSW.
EBH – Getting really close!! I haven’t seen a good running list of bands people plan/want to see as part of their SXSW experience this year.
Is there already a blog somewhere that is covering this?
If not, can we start a thread here?
I have a detailed set list on my own SXSW website – One Man From Orkney, Scotland, Goes to SXSW
http://www.burningclub.co.nr/
It’s going to be a zoo, this year !!
Cheers,
Ronnie
redsonja – Covers vary a lot as mentioned above. I’ve usually paid between $15 – $20, but bigger names draw bigger prices.
johnny appleseed: chamillionaire is listed to play on 3/13 on SXSW’s own website. go to the schedule and pull up Tuesday’s date.
Houston Press & Village Voice present:
The Bravery
The Horrors
Mando Diao
fri 3/16 1-5pm
La Zona Rosa
free show, 21+, public welcome
what (if any) venue has replaced the music hall?
bigwang – the conv. center ballroom has replaced the music hall. But there are no shows listed for Sat. nite and it’s much smaller than the music hall. La Zona Rosa’s capacity is 2000 and I believe Stubb’s is 3000. No larger venues than those 2.
Mr. E. – unfortunately, some venues are going to have bad, or not great, sound, and poor sight lines. Especially the clubs that are actually ON E. 6th St., between Brazos and I-35. Many of those clubs don’t have live music the other 51 weeks of the year, they are either dance clubs or shot bars. The exceptions would be Flamingo Cantina, The Ritz, Maggie Mae’s (inside) and The Parish. Most of the Red River/7th St. area clubs should be okay.
Does anyone know if Mika, The Good The Bad and The Queen, or Junior Senior are playing any shows other than their showcases? Keep the Peace
The Urb party rsvp info is here: http://www.urb.com/lonestarsocial/
Haven’t got it up on the showlist yet, but it will go up today.
I’m kinda bummed that I’m making the trek to Austin and spending Wednesday and Thursday at SXSW solo. I’ve got some friends coming in Thursday night, but what till then?
Any advice for lone South By Southwest-ers?
My advice for solo SXSWers is to enjoy it while it lasts – on your own, you’re never subject to anyone else’s whims.
I’ll be doing my first SXSW this year, sans wristband. Seems like everyone agrees that the bigger name shows will be hard to get into without a band, maybe even without a badge. My question: what are those shows this year? What acts are going to be toughest to see?
MisterThom–I did the whole thing solo last year, and I’m doing it again this year.
My advice: talk to people. It’s very easy to do, since everybody is sharing an experience. “Seen anything cool?” is always a good icebreaker, or “Anything you’re excited about?” if it’s early in the week.
Even when your friends are around, you’re probably better off just doing what you want to do, rather than trying to keep up with anybody.

does anyone know if the ZUNE / FADER/ LEVIS Saturday show or Pitchfork’s shows are free or invite only?
what do us non-badgers and wristbanders do at night when shows will be impossible to get into? we’re flying in from jersey.
Solo really isn’t a bad way to go. I’ve found that even when I do go with others we inevitably get split up at some point. Also, you’re more likely to get in if there’s only one of you.
solo is a good way to go. i’ve done it that way the last two years, but i have a girlfriend this year. I had a great time, seeing what i wanted to see and not having to wait for anyone or argue about where to go next or right now.
I’d also recommend going solo…although I usually have a 4 or 5 people with me, and since I’m the musicly snob of my group, they can either follow me or get the hell out of my way
Damn, I need to find a way to get into the Good The Bad and The Queen!!!!!
misterthom…going solo….I enjoy it! I usually spend at least one or two days solo and I’m a gal! The way I see it, I’m there to hear the music I want to and nobody elses opinions are gonna stop me! That being said, I usually have several friends who go too and I hook up w/ them at various shows, but I always have my own schedule & plans. Also, my boyfriend usually joins me for at least one night. So, it’s all good.
“I’d also recommend going solo…although I usually have a 4 or 5 people with me, and since I’m the musicly snob of my group, they can either follow me or get the hell out of my way” hahahahHAHAHA AWESOME! That’s the way to go. No girlfriend this year so I’m super-psyched. It’s going to be bad ass just like the ol’ days. Running around with my head cut off and fueled by booze, gyros, BBQ, and the occaisional full meal.
Hi everyone!
Is anyone else attending the ‘Mess with Texas’ and/or Vice parties? Since I’m not too keen on what is or isn’t allowed with laminates, wrist bands or or badges, I thought it easier to attend the free shows. Regardless, it’ll be hectic, no?
Also, do bands set up merch booths? I’d like to support them. The anxiety is killing me and I can’t wait! Anyone also going to the Todd P parties? How about Friday and Sat. night late night free fests/parties?
Thank you all so much!
do most places allow cameras?
never had a problem with cameras in any venue
3rd Round Of SXSW Wristband Sales To Occur Mar. 14
Video: Watch Our Latest News
(CBS 42) AUSTIN South By Southwest fans will be relieved to know that yet another round of wristband sales has been scheduled.
Wristbands will go on sale again on Wednesday, March 14 according to a spokesperson for SXSW 2007. Wristbands will be priced at $175 for this third round of sales.
However — the exact time of the planned sale has not yet been announced. Organizers say there will be text messages sent out and the sale will be announced over the radio.
The touch-and-go nature of the wristband sales are in part an effort to deter scalpers.
Four thousand wristbands have been sold already — and an unknown number of badges have been issued to registered festival participants and attendees.
Those with badges will get preferred entry to venues.
Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I definitely feeling more comfortable about the situation now.
@Adolfo – I’d like to go to both Mess With Texas parties. Good lineups and comedy – seems like a winner. I’ve only been to SXSW once before and I didn’t have any problems getting into any of the day parties. It seems hard to predict what’s going to be too hectic to be worth it to me as I was surprised that some parties were crowded and shocked that others weren’t at all. Maybe someone with more experience can chime in on that.
As for merch booth setups, they’re unfortunately not that prevalent but I did see a few bands selling stuff. Normally a couple of the smaller opening acts had a merch table. I bought a shirt from Toko Yasuda of Enon out of a trunk after a day party in 2005.
And to keep the comments going – anyone got any recommendations for showcases or acts that might be overlooked? I think Polyvinyl at Red 7 on Friday. I’d never heard of any of the bands other than Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin but the others aren’t bad either. Also, I really dig the couple of Catfish Haven songs I’ve heard if anyone’s not familiar with them.
See you guys in Texas.
does anyone know how to get a spin laminate? ive tried to google it and nothing. please let me/us know. thank you so much!!!
is there a real possibility of getting into label showcases if you dont have a wristband or badge?
Please tell me there is a Red Bull House this year. Then tell me where it is. No, seriously.
stubbs does not like cameras with flashes.
cameras – are we talking point & shoot digitals?
what about 35 mm cameras without a ton of lenses? like just the kit lens.
do u have to sneak cameras in your pocket or can u walk in with one? do places that say no let you check them?
Can I use a credit card for wristband sales next Wedn, 3/14, or do I need cash?
CAMERAS: last year i walked into every venue with a Pro video camera in my backpack. I was never searched once. I pulled the vid camera out at Stubbs and shot 1 Mogwai song. No one said anything. I was probably lucky tho, because all SXSW literature says ‘no video allowed’.
Stubbs definitely doesn’t like cameras, and their bouncers are quick to act if they see it.
As for someone asking about what to do at night, there are lots of good free shows at night, often featuring local talent. Hole in the Wall has good music every night, Jos Coffee has shows til 10 pr 11 each night, Free shows at Auditorium Shores 3 nights (including Public Enemy!), Mother Egans has a great show on Wednesday, Sams Town Point has good music wed-friday, and there’s a bunch more. showlistaustin lists all the night shows. seems there’s a bunch on 6th street.
Any word on a Diesel party at Saengerrunde Hall this year?
i’d like more comments on the camera issue. last year i missed some great opportunities for pics cuz i forgot my camera. this year i was gonna bring it but was worried about the warnings from sxsw and would hate to get to a venue only to be turned around cuz i have a camera. i have a backpack/small case that i can hide it in.
also i understand the mess with texas party has both inside and outside stages at red 7. but i was kinda concerned about capacity because of the hella awesome lineup and also the fact that its free and open to anyone. not that that is a bad thing but just i would think it would make for an overflow crowd. whats their capacity? thoughts anyone?
on cameras: i wasn’t searched once for a camera and never had any trouble using it constantly at shows, although i didn’t go to any shows at stubb’s last year.
I was at the Root’s concert at Stubbs a couple weeks ago, had a camera (nothing professional, just a personal digital camera), but I wasn’t searched at the door nor was I told that I couldn’t take any pictures.

Do I need to make sure I have an extra $200 cash in my pocket for the wristband?

and how do i get an invite to this? http://farm1.static.flickr.com/143/405348375_31d8c4599d_o.jpg
also, do you guys check your computers during sxsw to find out about more parties or is everything pretty much announced already?
i can get you into the factory people party if you can get me into the stubbs
Thank you again for the info, MisterThom! As for thedude, I am sure people’ll show up an hour or so before they open doors. I’m worried about the same thing since I’ll be driving there from Mexico that day. Oh man, I shudder to think how bad it’ll be if I can’t get in.
Also, did anyone get confirmation for the Vice Saves Texas party? Or do you just tell them your e-mail address at the door? Do fests give out random goods, promo items at shows? That way to get a pocket-ridden jacket for that day.
Thank to all for the helpful info!
This is going to be great!
which party at stubbs?
Anyone know times for the Don’t Mess With Texas party? Specifically, what time Les Savy Fav plays.
Oh, that would be the Mess with Texas Party
anyone have info on the NX35 Denton party with Midlake @ Momo’s?
I sent my email for the Vice party, but haven’t received confirmation either. I wouldn’t worry too much. Last year I RSVPd the day before the Vice party at the same location, and when I went, they didn’t even check a list. They just checked my ID and let me in.

samething happened to me lastyear.
I RSVP’d for a show at Stubb’s, never get any confimation back from them, so I just showed up anyways, and still got in. All they did was check my id, gave me a wristband for beer and it was on!!!
100, punks, rule!
Any one know when The Rapture is playing (other than Weds. at La Zona Rosa)?
Thanks guys!
Thanks for the Vice info! As for Les Savy Fav… who knows. They’re billed first, but could be one of the last bands to play. Doors open at 11, and then Andrew W.K. is hosting his lecture(!) so that’d be a bit before anything starts. I suppose that the show and comedy’ll start noon-wise. Regardless, they’ll both be packed for those who’d rather laugh than rock and vice-versa.
I wish Mess with Texas would post set times like everyone else
So we know from another post at the top of the blog’s page now that Razorlight is the “special guest” Friday night for BBC2’s La Zona Rosa showcase…what about Saturday night? Are they really letting Satellite Party play a 2nd gig in that prime timeslot or will it be someone unannounced such as the Scissor Sisters? Any confirmations or other theories?
Anyone know if you need an invite to get into the Blender After Hours parties, or can you get in with just a badge/wristband?
A few things:
–Austinist.com has a great “interactive SXSW guide” that lists pretty much all of the day parties and a lot of the night ones as well, including e-mail/Web addresses where you go to RSVP.
–Tuesday night parties: it’s the tail end of the SXSW Interactive festival, so there’s a closing party at a club called The Foundation (307 W. 5th) that night. I think the official invite is on the aforementioned Austinist guide. I don’t know if you can RSVP if you’re not a SXSW Interactive attendee, but surely you guys have perfected the art of bullshitting your way into parties like these! Also, fluffertraX is hosting its annual party at Lucky Lounge from 7-9pm.
–Wristbands will be available in copious numbers on Craigslist as of Tuesday and Wednesday once people realize the friends they bought them for can’t make it to town or whatever. Last year I bought one Wednesday for the $130 price. I’d suggest placing a “wristband wanted” ad there and making clear that you refuse to give in to any scalper bullshit and won’t pay anything more than original purchase price.
–“Label showcases” aren’t any different than any other showcases, except that all the bands playing happen to be on the same label. You can buy one-off tickets to most of them if you get there early enough.
–The Diesel-U-Music party is indeed at Saengerrunde Hall again, Friday night starting at 7pm. RSVP at rsvp_usa@diesel.com.
hey John….unfortunately, the Saturday La Zona Rosa special guest is yes indeed Satellite Party
found it on Mew’s site http://www.mewsite.com
no mention of the Foundation closing party on the Austinist guide. anyone have any details? any one like Sleater Kinney playing this year on Tuesday?
after reading the 100+ comments, i hope i’m not repeating anything already said.
spin party laminates (in the past)have been handed out at the convention center in the trade show. in 9 years, i haven’t heard of anywhere else.
used to work for the bookers, and the special guests are almost always repeats of someone who’s already playing another showcase. sucks, i agree.
i’m pretty sure cash and credit cards are accepted, but i would have the cash on me in the off chance they are not using their regular cash registers or in case cash gets a faster line.
cameras-been kicked out of stubbs for a “pro” camera (35-80mm). they search bags. been searched at emo’s too, but i knew that was coming, so i prepared. never had trouble anywhere else, ‘cept austin music hall, which i guess isn’t a prob this year. they’ve never seen my audio recording equip, and i’d like to keep it that way.
day parties you can definitely hop, but the bigger ones (spin, fader, mess w/texas) will probably be harder to get into/back into as the day wears on. spin was deserted when it first opened last year. good time to get food.
if you need/want a wristband before wed, approach someone on tues when they get their badge and ask if you can buy their 1 wristband allowance.
So if I have a music badge and attend the trade show on Wednesday, I should be able to pick up a Spin laminate from the magazine’s booth with no problem, or are they selective about who they give them to? I’m just attending as a fan with money to waste on a badge, so I’m not someone with credentials…thanks in advance.
you should be okay, but i’d say be prepared to flirt with whoever is holding the clipboard. sometimes i’ve heard they’ve got a list on that clipboard, but i’ve never been on a list and have always been able to get on or two, but you definitely need to get them early.
i’m not positive, but i think they didn’t have them first thing wed, ’cause i sent someone in a few times to get mine, but i’d say check early and often.
if I have a badge but i’m under 21, would I still be able to get into the village voice party (or other 21+ parties, for that matter)?
Sorry, probably a dumb question, but i’m just wondering since I REALLY want to go to that one!
well, i believe that age is really decided by the venue. every year the spin party says that it’s 21+ on the badge, but my 18 year old brother got in no problem last year, but i believe that it was because it was at stubb’s.
so, i think that if it’s a regular all ages/18+/21+ venue, they use those rules for day shows as well. not to mention, putting 21+ cuts out a ton of the people anyway.
of course, it may have been because we were one of the first few people in the door, but i think the venue probably sticks to their regular age limitations.
so, la zona rosa, i think, is all ages. i’d guess you wouldn’t have a problem, but i’d get there early in case my 2nd theory was the valid one.
thanks a bunch Art Vandelay!
And another question (I think someone’s already asked this though), do I need to RSVP for the parties if I already have a music badge? Or would my badge get me into them?
yes, you still have to rsvp. most of them don’t care if you have a badge, but there are a very few that are rsvp & badge, and even fewer where your badge and/or wristband is admission.
in short, always rsvp. err on the side of caution.
Anyway to get into a film screening without a badge/wristband at the Alamo Drafthouse?
hasan: i believe, theoretically, you can buy a ticket for a screening in the film fest if there are seats available but be warned: unless you are going to an a) fairly unknown film or b) are going in the afternoon on a weekday, you are most likely going to be shut out by the pass and badge holders. Sorry, i don’t know what the per film cost is.
Films – If you mean Drafthouse Downtown, good luck. The other theatres you should have a really good shot at getting into. I have a pass but tend to show up late, after ticket buyers, and I haven’t been turned away from anything yet. Pretty sure individual tix are $7. What are you going to see? I HIGHLY recommend King of Kong!
We wanted to see the midday showing of Silver Jew about the Silver Jews in Israel. It’s midday on Wednesday at the Drafthouse Downtown so we were hoping it would be possible. How early before showtime do tickets go on sale?
they say 15 minutes. I showed up this afternoon for a screening of a pretty big film (I think) Downtown after all of the ticketbuyers had gone through and still got in, so you should be safe. I think 20-30 minutes before start time is the earliest you need to get there.
