  1. Utah Saints are going to be at SXSW!!!
    myspace.com/utahsaints

The only question now is WHERE? Anyone know???

  2. The Automatic at Stubbs tore the house down — they were really good. And I thought Lily Allen was strangely charming in her rude-girl way. I enjoyed her anti-NME rant.

  3. Matt from Philly

We when to Mohawks during the day. Saw some great acts:

Peter and the Wolf I liked but played a really short set.
Stars for the Track and field were good, kinda mainstream sounding but moving.
Surprise awesome band of the day was Apes and Andrioids, soooo entertaning, I mean, WOW.
I most enjoyed Architecture in Helsinki the Most during the day. I just over there spirit. When I grow down I want to be in a in Architecture in Helsinki. They were a little sloppy but maybe that wasn’t all bad. Great energy. They have to have the Coolest girl singer in all of SXSW.

Didn’t have a wrist band but tried to go to the Beruit show anyways. But it turned out to be a tease. 15 people away from getting in. Shoulde got’n there 2 1/2 hrs earlier rather then just 2 and we would have been good.

Ended up going to Peter Bjorn and John late around 12:30 Favorite show of the Day. I love love love their music right now. Quite lovely but the also rocked the house out. Real tight and great dynamics. And lead singer was trumendously fun and Jolly. The sweeds tried harder then anyone else I saw to please the crowd. With such wounder muisc it wasn’t that hard. Then end this my a great extended version of my favorite song, Up Against the Wall, That song will make me sad and wishful for this time in my life for years and years to come.

Course I didn’ get to see half the bands I wanted to but i’m contend even if all I saw was PBJ. Thats just the was SXSW goes.

Would of loved to seen The Anuals. and The Pipettes.

  4. bonghitwillie

    meat puppets at fort
vice punk rock on the lamar ped bridge at 2am!!!! 1000 people?
    lily allen was short
fuckin emos would not let in peps w/o badges to see black angels

  5. lily allen was great! short set but very, very good.
watching all the photographers, during the set, miss each shot was just bonus.

  6. great morning show at mohawk. went to the silver jew screening before any of the MAIN acts but still saw earl grayhound so it’s cool. we were NEXT in line to buy tickets at emo’s and decided to leave with the growing line for beirut so we went to see the sub pop showcase where we saw two incredible performances by loney dear and oxford collapse before calling it a night.

    can’t wait for today!

  7. Did anyone get in to Red Eyed Fly to see The Big Sleep? Lines were too long when I got there. Japan rockers Mothercoat and owkmj were both outstanding. Simple Kid lived up to the Chronicle’s recommendation, too.

  8. Does anyone know if Apes and Androids are going to be doing any shows that aren’t listed on the schedule or their myspace? I missed them yesterday and I would love to see them. Thanks.

  9. i always felt asleep during Donovan (have one album and recognized a couple songs and even though it was interesting just to be there, i felt very tired). It was at a church and such was the environment. seems like i cant stay awake at church.

The Automatic sucked ass!! even though that one little kid had so much enery. i really didnt like their music but i was so amused by that kid’s energy.

Lily Allen was amazing. so much fun. i really hadnt heard anything from her and i downloaded it right when i got home.

razorlight was all right. not bad but not the greatest.

peter bjorn and john had to be the highlight of the night. somehow i managed to make it after razorlight (ran to my car from stubbs, find a parking spot outside of la zona rosa and only missed the first two songs)

  10. Carly Binding, carly binding, carly binding. Thanks to the incredible idiocy of the SxSW promotional staff, this fantastic bluesy Kiwi singer-songwriter got relegated to the hell of the Hilton Garden Inn Creekside, an impossibly hard to find, “intimate” room where maybe 30 people (ten of them SXSW staff) enjoyed her powerful, well trained voice which reaches the grit of Melissa Etheridge but also hits the high notes in a way that Melissa couldn’t ever dream of – and never breaks. We both walked away mesmerized by her talent and her deep, soulful lyrics – it’s no wonder she’s so popular back home and hopefully she’ll forgive us enough to want to come back to Austin and play in front of the large crowd that she deserves. She was classy throughout the set and gave it her all, which I found in a way touching since that venue is really a slap in the face for musicians.

  11. During the day- chased free drinks and tamales/bbq/other texmex… only decent bands i saw were apostle of hustle (they played a song that was about “taking mescaline and riding an armadillo to waco” that was sweet) and the black angels were their usual psychedelic drone selves. saw pipettes and rapture at la zona rosa, both were relatively unimpressive (and just reinforced my hatred of la zona rosa… its a huge room and should sound nice with plenty of reverb, but it always sounds squishy and flat in there- and the stage is in a dumb spot). Then treked back over to the red eyed fly for the frenchkiss showcase. saw 1/2 of fatal flying guillotines, the big sleep, thunderbirds are now!, and les savy fav. it started good, and each band kept getting better. LSF was amazing and easily one of the best shows i’ve seen at any sxsw
