Dead Schembechlers, OSU vs Michigan, Guns

So, the Dead Schembechlers are a college football punk band that love Ohio State University. They sing about their love of OSU and their hatred of Michigan, and as someone who is not a sports fan even I can appreciate the humor in it. You can read more about the band over on ESPN.

Anyway, the band is named after Bo Schembechler, a Michigan coach who happened to die today. Kind of a sticky situation considering the Dead Schembechlers are playing their biggest show tonight, an OSU Rally at the Newport Music Hall.

There’s been an insane debate going on about the show tonight – should the band play tonight or not?

The band released this message via Myspace:

TONIGHT’S SHOW WILL BE THE FINAL AS THE DEAD SCHEMBECHLERS: The band has announced that tonight’s show will be their final under their name. If they do continue as a musical entity in the future, it will be under a changed moniker. They have also announced that all of their profits from tonight, along with those of Watershed and B.A. Baracus, will be donated to a charity of the Schembechler family’s choosing. The show is tonight November 17th at The Newport Music Hall on High Street in Columbus. Tickets are only $8 in advance and $10 at the door. You can get them at the box office, Ticketmaster locations or go directly to the event right now on Ticketmaster.com.

I think it’s the best move for the band. Besides, they can reform under a new name next football season under a new name and be just as popular.

As for me, tomorrow I’ll be hiding in my basement with a shotgun in one hand an an unpinned grenade in the other. Go Bucks?
