NBC Orders Removal of “Lazy Sunday” Video

Remember when we all loved the “Lazy Sunday” video by Saturday Night Live? We sent links to all our friends, and even when other people had sent it to us by the tenth time we didn’t even mind? We loved the video so much we didn’t even care!

Well, NBC has ordered the removal of the clip from YouTube and other popular sharing websites. You can watch it on their website, but WHOOPS! It doesn’t work on Apple.

Read more here. It’s too bad, really, because it’s the internet buzz due to sharing that got people interested in an otherwise lukewarm SNL season.

  1. ah, yet another giant corporation, too blinded by greed to understand what sharing online can do for them. I wonder how many independent bands and labels have benefited from the wave of mp3 bloggers? My guess would be that many bands are seeing a huge increase in the amount of fans and cd sales. It’s too bad these bigger companies are so clueless. I have this fantasy of a future that doesn’t involve creative talent being linked to rich bastards who don’t care about what their clients are producing, but instead all great artists are promoted and distributed by people who love them and appreciate what they create. Of course this will never happen, because too many creative types want to be “stars”. But I guess I don’t care much about those people anyway.

at any rate, you can get a firefox extension that downloads youtube videos as flash movies (flv), then there is freeware that will convert it to mp4. I’ve been downloading like crazy, knowing that eventually the powers that be will do what they can to get content taken off of youtube. For instance, all of the episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm….how long do you think those will stay up??

want the script to download movies? (don’t forget to save them as .flv, or else you end up with a useless php file):

(they have a script to save google video, as well)

and you can convert them into something you can actually watch using one of these:

http://www.effectmatrix.com/total-video-converter/ (isoft total video converter, for windows)

  3. They’re assholes. I have an Apple; no go on the player. But it plays on this site http://www.evtv1.com/player.aspx?itemnum=1420 so at least I can forward the link on to people who – gasp! – haven’t seen it yet.
