Fueled By Free Shiz

I?m all about free shit today. As a matter of fact, why don’t we call this FREE FRIDAY. Yeah, today is the grand opening of Free Friday on DW. (Duffy goes away for a day, and I go and start making up gimmicks and shit. The nerve!)

So, if you go on over to Radiotakeover, you can win yourself a copy of Fall Out Boy?s new album, ?Take This To Your Grave,? on Fueled By Ramen.

Hey, I know what it?s like to be fueled by ramen. Don?t we all, at some point in our lives?

But I don?t know anything about Fall Out Boy. They?re from Chicago. Perhaps Tankboy can tell us about Fall Out Boy.

Are you guys related?

I hate pop-punk.

Glassjaw, Too?

Recently, I was informed by Soldierant that the lovely Liz Phair would be appearing today at the new Apple store in Soho.

She’s not the only one. I found this via www.glassjaw.com, via www.radiotakeover.com:

Friday, May 2 @ apple SOHO

This Friday @ 8:00PM sharp, glassjaw (or some version of it) will be playing a couple of songs at the apple store in SOHO (NYC) in hopes of walking out with an ipod or two. None of that ten gig crap, we be talking bout those new 30 gig mofucks. So come down, it is free, and hopefully fun. If you come don’t make fun of us…Thanks.

I like free stuff.

What the Ignition?

Umm, it just happened again. I have no idea how I got on the Ignition Distro mailing list, but here’s what the message says:

Hi, Just a quick note.
We need to make some space in the stock room quickly for some new stuff so anyone who orders online from the Ignition Distro at www.ignitiononline.co.uk in the next seven days will receive a copy of our new Planes Mistaken For StarsCDep with their order absolutely FREE!
Thanks a lot, David.

Umm, okay. Well, thank YOU, David. Whoever you are.

We’ve played with Planes Mistaken For Stars a couple times. They put on one helluva show. Nice fellas, too, but, boy do they smell.

Stinky!

What the Norah?

How in the world did I get on the Norah Jones mailing list? I have no idea. But here’s what the message says. I haven’t even read it. I’m just posting it here because it seems like the thing to do.

This just in:

The Yeah Yeah Yeah(s), Ellen, and La Boheme

Good Day NY is our local Fox network daily news program. I love this show. I switch back and forth every morning, between Good Day NY and Katie and Her Legs on NBC. This morning, on Good Day, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were featured on their list of ?Things To Do? in the city over the weekend. The reporter, David Marshall Price, clearly unfamiliar with the band, spoke to a Time Out NY contributing editor, saying, ?So, tell me about this Yeah Yeah Yeah (singular). What?s it all about??

The Time Out NY contributing editor went on to say that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are NYC?s current hottest ?trash punk? band.

Yup. Alongside the Yeah Yeah Yeah(s) on the list of ?Things To Do? in the city over the weekend, were Ellen DeGeneres? Beacon Theater performance being taped live for HBO, and La Boheme on Broadway. The Yeah Yeah Yeah(s), Ellen, and La Boheme. Yup. Makes perfect sense to me.

Although, I don?t believe the Yeah Yeah Yeah(s) are even playing in the city this weekend. (Rob Duffy would know better.)

And, as far as I know, I?m the first person to point this out: Karen O is butt-ugly.

Listen to the Sirens Sing

The Village Voice?s annual Siren Music Festival is scheduled for Saturday, July 19th. They?re beginning to announce the bands:

Modest Mouse
Hot Hot Heat
Sahara Hotnights
!!!
The Kills
Radio 4
Ted Leo/ Pharmacists
Northern State
The Pattern

The web site says that many more great bands will be announced soon. I?m sure that?s true. It?s an all day event, free to the public, and open to all ages. How lovely.

Dick Zigun ? often referred to as the ?Mayor? of Coney Island ? and owner of the famous Coney Island Circus Sideshow and Coney Island Museum, was my theater professor. He gave me lots of As, and often acknowledged that I understood the work we were studying even better than he did. It made me happy. Another past professor of mine, Marie Roberts, is the resident artist of Coney Island, painting wonderful banners for the sideshow. She also paints the banners that decorate the Siren Music Fest.

I?ve done some volunteer work for the Sideshow, painting monsters on the walls, cleaning up basements, things like that. My band? We only love Coney Island all year round. We put on benefit concerts for the Sideshow when there are no other festivals going on, that very few people come to see.

We are radical. We?re so radical and awesome it hurts.

Am I bitter? A bit, yes. I hate life.

Forgotten Friday: I should really just keep this one to myself, but…

So, I?m sure all of you have already heard the bad news about Creed. Yeah, they?re getting sued and all that. But I just wanted to say this: The whole thing really puts a big hole in their creedability.
OH, hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

I?m sorry. I just thought that one up while I was walking to the bathroom, and it really cracked me up.

Okay, I?m better now.
Thanks.

Forgotten Friday: Fishbone? Get Outta Here!

Black Like Sunday , the new album from King’s X, will hit shelves (as they say) on May 20th. In support of the album, a twenty-four-date tour begins on May 2nd in Tallahassee, Florida; all dates except two will include Fishbone.

Forgotten Friday: Live Lives?

Live will release their 6th album (they had FIVE others?) on May 20th, which will include a bonus DVD featuring Live’s concert from the 2002 Pinkpop Festival (they played shows in 2002?) in Holland. They’re calling the album Birds of Prey.
