Gorilllllaz

This just in from The Gorillaz:

It’s official. Gorillaz have completed recording their brand new album. The very first outing for the forthcoming album is said to be happening at this years’ South by South West festival in the USA. Murdoc is rumoured to be taking the album over in person. He said, “I’m hand-delivering this precious baby myself. One slip up and these 15 tracks of gold will be splashed all over the internet faster than you can say ‘bring forward the release date'” We’ll keep you posted on all the latest news on the album release as soon as we have it.

(If anyone sees Mr. Albarn trotting around Austin, please do say hello to him for me. Thanks.)

Bankin' Bono.

I know Bono wants to save the world and for that I love him. I’m not sure I’m really ready for him to head up the World Bank though.

That’s a little too strange, even for rock and/or roll. Though it would be cool if he and Alan Greenspan went on a world tour together, don’t you think?

All quiet on the Western Front.

Some may have noticed it?s been a little quiet around here, no? Well I think it?s time to break the silence and let y?all know that we here at DoneWaiting are so shocked and stunned by the one-two punch of absolute crap albums released this week by J-Lo (I will never stop calling her that no matter how many times she asks me) and 50 Cent that we?ve been struck mostly speechless. Mostly.

In other music news?

Why has no one written about this?!

Sleater-Kinney none too pleased with leaky Internets.

Someone leaked the new, Dave Fridmann produced, Sleater-Kinney album The Woods to the P2P networks and the ladies are not happy about it. As a matter of fact, in a letter on their website they say:

The http://www.j-hokkaido.com/wp-content/themes/twentyten/computer-science-homework-help.html most honest thing we can say is that it breaks our hearts to think of this being out there early. It actually just feels awful. The release date is 3 months away. We have worked for so long on this record. It’s not real for us until May 24th; that is the moment when we get to share this piece of our lives that we are so proud of, to share it with you the way we intended; please wait until then to share it with us.

If you have put this record up on the Internet, please take it down now.(full text)

I honestly don?t know how I feel about this one. I mean, people who will download an S-K album are the same folks that will most likely buy the disc when it comes out so I don’t think it’s a fear of lost sales thing. I?ve heard a few tracks and the disc sure sounds real enough to me even though it?s not May 24 yest, so I?m not sure where they?re going with that one either. It is Sleater-Kinney though and they do seem heartfelt and genuinely upset so I guess I?m gonna side with them on this one even though I?m usually in favor of sharing ? and buying ? music.

By the way, the disc is unlike anything they?ve done before. Acid-guitar freakouts and distorto-drums. It?s awesome. But wait ?til May 24 before checking it out, m?kay?

Spoon gives the scoop on new disc.

Spoon’s new album is coming out May 10.
It’s gonna be called Gimme Friction.
The band says:

It covers such topics as long distance relationships, the apocalyptic bent of certain American Southerners, neckrugs, emotional shutdowns, Ralph Reed Jr., a musical called The Stranger Dance, and Marquette, Michigan. Did I mention it’s the longest Spoon record yet?

The tracklisting is:

The Beast and Dragon, Adored
The Two Sides of Monsieur Valentine
I Turn My Camera On
My Mathematical Mind
The Delicate Place
Sister Jack
I Summon You
The Infinite Pet
Was It You?
They Never Got You
Merchants of Soul

We is so informative, ain’t we?

Queens leak.

We here at DoneWaiting abhor illegal activities. We would never support underage drinking, drug use, shoplifting cigarettes from your local five and dime or shipping pornographic materials to Japan. We believe that illegal downloading of music is way way worse than any of those offenses, though. However we are a news outlet so we feel it is our duty to write about the news. And talk in the third person plural.

The new Queens Of The Stoneage album has been leaked on the P2P networks so if you’re looking to get your cowbell fix in,today is the day to do it.

U2 helps out fans who still haven't found what they're looking for.

Were you too screwed by the on-line U2 pre-sale ticket debacle? Larry Mullen Jr. feels your pain and wants to make it up to you and he’s offering refunds to all U2 susbscribers who “didn’t get tickets [and] are understandably angry.”

Read his full letter to the fans here.

He also hints they are trying to find a fair way to distribute tickets fort the Fall leg of their North American tour.

See? U2 are still a bunch of decent guys.

Urge Overkill cancels all tour dates and says "buh-bye" to their manager.

This just in and hot off the press:

We apologize for any inconvenience, but the Valentine’s Day show at the Viper Room and any other US shows that may have been booked have been cancelled. Urge Overkill has parted ways with their manager, and are currently writing new material and preparing to record the much-awaited new record! Their previous manager, Beth Winer, will be handling their affairs until a new full-time manager is found. Rest assured, however, that the U.R.G.E. train is still rolling and there are plenty of great things to come! (full story)

Word on the street is that their New Year’s Eve show was less — quite a bit less — than sold-out so I wonder if that has anything to do with the band sacking their manager since he’s also their booking agent? As always, more details as thery emerge.

Moistworks stops flowing…for now.

Apparently the British are jumping in on the act of telling good MP3 bloggers like Moistworks to cease and desist. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry sent a letter to Moistworks’ host which said, in part:

We have learned that your service is hosting infringing files on its network (see above-referenced directory). These files contain sound recordings by the artists known as Stone Roses and Public Enemy. These sound recordings are owned by some of our member companies and have not been authorized for this kind of use. We have a good faith belief thatthe above-described activity is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law. We assert that the information in this notification isaccurate, based upon the data available to us. We are asking for your immediate assistance in stopping this unauthorizedactivity. Specifically, we request that you remove the infringing files from your system or that you disable access to the infringing files. In addition, please inform the site operator of the illegality of his or her conduct.

You should understand that this letter constitutes notice to you that this site operator may be liable for the infringing activity occurring on yourservice. In addition, under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, if you ignore this notice, you and/or your company may also be liable for any resulting infringement.

The site should be up once they switch hosts but it certainly seems to send out an ominous meassage, especially since the site tends to offer MP3s by incredibly obscure groups and shies away from the mainstream.

Not to mention, I thought Chuck D was a fan of electronic dissemination of musical media so what’s up with that?

Ted Leo rocks out with Air America!

Ted Leo will be appearing on tomorrow’s Morning Sedition and will play a live solo set at 8:30 EST.

I figured with all the bad news today we needed something “up” to look forward to…
