Donewaiting.com approved rock show in Chicago

Donewaiting.com faves Loretta are performing in a show I set up in Chicago at The Double Door tonight with the three extra-fine home grown groups Cordy, Tom Daily and the Volunteers and BITCHBECOOL.

Because I like you so much I’m posting discounted tickets so that everyone — even the destitute — can still get their rock on.

Go here for the discount tix and here for even further detail regarding this awe-inspiring event.

Get yer Pre-Order on!

If you plan on being in Chicago to witness the sure-to-be Universe Altering? event on New Year?s Eve known as the joint Flaming Lips and White Stripes concert there?s no need to wait for mega-Leviathan TicketBastard to put tickets on sale at Noon on Saturday November 8.

Instead, go to The Flaming Lips website right here tomorrow, November 4, after 10am Central time and get your passes to certain paradise way ahead of the rest of the pack.

This has been a public service announcement. You?re welcome.

Where's that rocket ship?!

While beating out The Eagles and Rod Stewart is as big an accomplishment as, say, tying your shoes all by yourself it’s still pretty sick that they lost to Rick Astley’s mutant clone. The fact that this clone’s sales slid by over 60% from the previous week only proves we are one step closer to armegeddon.

Confused about this movement called "Indie Rock?"

Well, luckily for you someone out there is willing to school your uneducated ass on the basics. Get yer Indie Rock Primer right here.

Thanks to Eric for pointing out this link to me.

Yamagata-gonna-getcha

Rachael Yamagata is from Chicago. Rachael Yamagata is cute as a button. Rachael Yamagata has a really big voice. Rachael Yamagata will probabaly be a star. Jump on the bandwagon now.

Read my review of her debut EP right here.

Now watch Duffy beat me for writing about Rachael instead of gushing over the truly awesome Chicago stop of The Done Waiting Field Studies Tour.

Yay for me! So sad for you.

Pitchfork scooped me on this one. I admit I didn’t even know about it, had heard nothing through the grapevine and was totally out of the loop on this one.

The Flaming Lips and The White Stripes are playing in Chicago for New Year’s Eve.

Yowza.

Soul on the road.

Cody ChesnuTT is quite possibly one of the most talented soul and/or rock and/or roll performers to come down the pike since Prince lost his marbles and drifted into irrelevance. Unfortunately the man seems to limit his appearances to either New York, L.A. or Europe but in October and November he?s actually braving the more central states here in the U.S. of A.

Better yet, musical chameleon The Incredible Moses Leroy is opening for ChesnuTT on a few dates. I caught this cat at SXSW about four or five years ago with a super stripped down band at a private party at about 11am and he still tore the roof of the joint. Later he reinvented himself in Beck?s image and went for the everything and the kitchen sink approach. These are shows not to be missed.

We have also included a few dates where Mr ChesnuTT is opening for the incredibly bland John Mayer just in case Mr ChesnuTT and Mr Leroy ain?t makin? it to your ?berg. Don?t worry, Mr ChesnuTT will spice up the night enough to make up for ten John Mayers.

October

Ready? Not…yet…

The Strokes came out with some surprising news indeed today when they announced their sophomore effort Room On Fire will be delayed a week due to “packaging problems.” Why is this a surprise? Well, with an album this heavily anticipated you would expect them to move the date up to combat possible file-sharing. I guess the boys from NYC figure folks’ll be willing to pay for a well put together album. What a concept.

Not so surprising is the announcement that Courtney Love’s debut solo disc will be pushed back from late October 2003 to February 2004 to allow for some “finishing touches.”

Translation? Let’s travel into the disturbing and imaginary land that is Courtney’s brain for this one:

“Well, even with the help of that chick from 4 Non Blondes — y’know the one Pink and Xtina love so much — I just can’t get my shit together. I sure wish my dear deceased hubby was here to supply me with some music. Darn!”

It?s a small world after all.

Don?t you just love when two huge media conglomerates decide that maybe they should make like the beast with two backs and narrow down an already claustrophobic sphere of influence?

We here at Done Waiting wish EMI and AOL Time Warner the best of luck! We?re always pulling for the little guys, y?know.

The rise and rise of Beatle Bob?

To those of you not in the know ? and that?d be most folks outside the Mid-West ? Beatle Bob is a dancing machine without compare. This man hits at least one show every night of the year if not more than one. He makes the term ?super fan? seem sorely lacking.

Well now Bob seems to be finally getting his moment in the spotlight since Guided By Voices put him in their video as seen here. You can also see a pic of him tearing up the dance floor with the one and only Daisy Glaze right here.

You wish you were that cool, don?tcha? Here?s hoping Bob?s happy feet infect pretentious head bobbin? indie-rockers ? like myself ? the world over!

It’s only a matter of time before Don Cornelius comes calling….
