Springsteen News

From Billboard:

Bruce Springsteen re-teams with producer Brendan O’Brien on his 19th album, “Devils & Dust,” which Columbia will release on April 26. The 12-track set follows the format of Springsteen’s ’90s studio work, in which he eschewed the presence of the full E Street Band and was instead surrounded by a rotating cast of collaborators.

Springsteen will tour acoustically in support of the new album, but no details have been announced as to who, if anyone, will back him or what size venues he will play. (full story)

Sleater-Kinney none too pleased with leaky Internets.

Someone leaked the new, Dave Fridmann produced, Sleater-Kinney album The Woods to the P2P networks and the ladies are not happy about it. As a matter of fact, in a letter on their website they say:

The http://www.j-hokkaido.com/wp-content/themes/twentyten/computer-science-homework-help.html most honest thing we can say is that it breaks our hearts to think of this being out there early. It actually just feels awful. The release date is 3 months away. We have worked for so long on this record. It’s not real for us until May 24th; that is the moment when we get to share this piece of our lives that we are so proud of, to share it with you the way we intended; please wait until then to share it with us.

If you have put this record up on the Internet, please take it down now.(full text)

I honestly don?t know how I feel about this one. I mean, people who will download an S-K album are the same folks that will most likely buy the disc when it comes out so I don’t think it’s a fear of lost sales thing. I?ve heard a few tracks and the disc sure sounds real enough to me even though it?s not May 24 yest, so I?m not sure where they?re going with that one either. It is Sleater-Kinney though and they do seem heartfelt and genuinely upset so I guess I?m gonna side with them on this one even though I?m usually in favor of sharing ? and buying ? music.

By the way, the disc is unlike anything they?ve done before. Acid-guitar freakouts and distorto-drums. It?s awesome. But wait ?til May 24 before checking it out, m?kay?

The Complete SXSW Schedule

According to SXSW, they’ll be releasing the full schedule (with showtimes, etc.) tomorrow. Keep refreshing our SXSW blog for all the details.

Oasis Just Sold Out Madison Square Garden

This is not a post from 1995! It just happened. Believe it.

They do have a new album coming out soon. I’m just surprised they have that much draw-power in the year 2005. Good for them, I guess.

I remember seeing Oasis a bunch of years back at the Hammerstein Ballroom. I remember when the came onstage, a bunch of “preppy” type 30-somethings rushed to the stage. Oasis was so loud that they all ran away within seconds.

It was one of the loudest shows I’ve ever seen, I swear.

Donewaiting.com Audioscrobbler Group

Do you use Audioscrobbler? If so, might I recommend joining the donewaiting.com Audioscrobbler group.

Basically, Audioscrobbler is a plugin for iTunes, Winamp, etc. that tracks the songs you listen to. The group will track all of the members, coming up with the most listened to bands in the donewaiting.com community.

FreeiPods.com loses TRUSTe privacy-assurance seal

I can’t imagine this is shocking news, but it may surprise the people who thought all those FreeIpod dealies were all on the up and up:

“TRUSTe said Gratis Internet of Washington could no longer display the industry’s broadly recognized seal intended to assure consumers that a website complies with privacy-protection guidelines on any of its internet properties,” reports the Associated Press. “It was the first such revocation in at least two years under the industry’s own regulatory program… TRUSTe said Gratis violated promises involving the protection of children’s information and changed how it managed the private information of its customers without adequately notifying them.” (full story)

Bolstering Community Radio

Senators John McCain (R-AZ), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), and Patrick Leahy (D-VT) have introduced the Local Community Radio Act of 2005, another attempt to bolster the Low-Power FM/Community Radio Movement. The Bill, according to Cantwell,

would allow additional low power FM radio stations to begin broadcasting, eliminate costly and redundant studies on possible interference from low power FM radio stations to other FM stations, and ensure the availability of radio spectrum for low power FM radio stations.

NPR also has a piece, despite their previous lobbying against community radio. More at Reason. You can contact your representatives here to voice support for the bill.

New Andrew Bird MP3

Andrew Bird has a new website and a new album. “The Mysterious Production of Eggs” hit stores the other day, and I’ve been playing it a lot lately. You can download a song from the new album: A Nervous Tic Motion Of The Head To The Left.

The melody will take a few days to leave your head.
