One of the top ten things about being in Chicago on vacation is being able to pick up a print copy of The Onion. Saw this today – Rob Corddry (of the Daily Show)picks some random songs on his iPod and writes about them. Here’s one of them… “Stereo” by Pavement”:

Oh wow, I’m awesome. Brighten The Corners—I would argue, the best Pavement record. The Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain people can slam a cock, because this is the best. I miss Pavement. I went and saw Stephen Malkmus live a couple years ago. Terrible. He’s a jam band now. There was this guy in the front row who wouldn’t stop asking Malkmus, “What’s up with the Jicks?” He kept saying, “Steve, what’s up with the Jicks?” And my friend Jason started yelling, “Esteban, que pasa los Jicks?” Needless to say, he did not answer us. Not a good show, though I got very drunk.

MEANWHILE, DURING THE CHICAGO VACATION: Looking forward to Pitchfork party tonight w/ Voxtrot and comedians. Tomorrow is the festival. Heat is killing us, but we will survive.

I’m in Chicago this weekend on vacation (through Pitchfork, word), and my internet access is spotty. Just wanted to point to this link from Frank about the lady in Concretes leaving the band.

Sonic Youth is playing Double Door in Chicago on August 5. This is a tiny room for them to play. Tickets are guest list only, we’re told. Anybody got an extra soul to sell to gain entry?

Here’s the line-up for today’s show at The Proletariat in Houston.

6:30-7pm: The Dimes
7:15-7:45pm Sitka Sound
8-8:30pm: Miranda Sound
9-9:45: Tody Castillo

Actual set times may vary, but it’ll start by 6:30 and be over before 10pm.
