Okkervil River on File Sharing

In the Okkervil River message board, the band talks about filesharing. In a great post, bandmember Will Sheff weighs the pros and cons, and seems pretty conflicted about it.

After tour upon tour of paying more for gas than we were making at the shows, of skipping meals, of asking people in the sparse crowds we drew if any of them had available floor space where we could spend the night, I’ve finally managed to make it pay enough so that I draw roughly the same salary as a clerk at a 7-11. I use that comparison solely descriptively, as I couldn’t be possibly be happier to be making a living doing what I love. At the same time, with no health insurance and no house and no idea how long my “music career” will last, it’s kind of become everything I have. I try to use that fact as reason to throw all of my energy and my care into every single thing that I do; as a result, my attitude about file-sharing has become more complicated now that it has a direct impact on my life.

Columbus OH Music This Week

It’s a bit of slim pickin’s this week in Columbus, but over on sister-siter weColumbus we’ve previewed some Columbus OH shows worth your attention this week.

Baz comments on Supergroup

Let’s face it, we all know “reality” shows aren’t all that realistic – when you film people 24/7 and have to boil down a 24 hour day into 24 or 52 minutes, lots of editing has to talk place.

Damnocracy/Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach, never one known to keep his mouth shut, had this to say about the show:

(from Blabbermouth.net)

The world has to know that:

a) Doc McGhee does not manage me (have not talked to him since March)
b) Valerie and Jay are in no way my “publicists” (have not talked to these people since March)
c) I do not have a ‘stylist.’
d) Unfortunately, there are absolutely no plans at this time for the band DAMNOCRACY. No tour, no album, no nothin’. I would love to play / record / whatever with DAMNOCRACY but at the moment all of us are busy with our rock and roll, adult film, and hunting careers. I am recording my second solo CD, entitled ‘Angel Down’, which will be in stores this October. My solo band will be on tour with GUNS N’ ROSES this July in the U.K.

Eric Metronome Covers Jackson Browne

In Eric’s yearlong experiment to cover one song a week for 52 weeks, he has chosen Jackson Browne’s “The Fairest of the Seasons” as this week’s treasure. Download it here.

Primal Scream, Country Girl

For the last week or so I’ve been playing the hell out of the new Primal Scream album, Riot City Blues. This album has a ton of energy, and it almost reminds me a little bit of the Dandy Warhols back when they were good.

Anyway, the first single, Country Girl, would definitely be on a summer mix CD if I still made mix CDs.. (damn you, playlists!)

Listen to the song here. Or watch the video (which might not be work safe):

Reworking Donewaiting.com

The first thing you might notice is we’ve redesigned the site. We’ve had the same design for almost four years now and I thought it was time for a change. You might love it, you might hate it, you might read the site through an RSS feed and not notice. But give it some time. Also, colors and random things might change in the next few days.

The second big thing we are doing is reorganizing how we’ve run the site. Up until now, donewaiting.com was made up of about ten different blogs with different topics like cities, technology, etc. We are now consolidating all of that to the main page. None of the writers are going anywhere – they’ll just be writing to the top blog. Specific content about Columbus, Chicago, San Francisco, etc will still happen on the site.

The only exception right now is Houston Calling. David’s column will remain seperate on the site… but we have some pretty huge plans for that in the coming months.

PS – I know the site might be a little off in Firefox 1.0 on a Mac. I’ll try to fix that soon. You could always fix it yourself and upgrade to Firefox 1.5.
