Cincinnati Man Sues Clear Channel

I gotta go dig up all my ticket stubs..

In one of many cases like it, a Hyde Park man has filed suit against Clear Channel Communications and its former concert-promotion arm, alleging that the Texas company parlayed its market dominance to jack up concert ticket prices excessively.

The suit was filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Cincinnati by Daniel Woodring, who is described as a ticket buyer to “one or more” rock concerts promoted by the defendants in the “middle Ohio River region.” His suit seeks to represent everyone who bought tickets to rock concerts in Kentucky, Indiana and the western half of Ohio beginning in June 1998. Tiara Breaking Up

Tiara is one of my favoriete bands. When I moved to Columbus, it took me a few years until I found them, but once I did, I was hooked. I saw them as much as I could, and really tried to promote the hell out of them to new and old fans alike. I even released a vinyl record with them two years ago, Donewaiting.com, Volume One: Tiara vs. Miranda Sound.

News came to me yesterday that, after 12 years, Tiara is finally calling it quits. I love every single person in the band, so I was sorry to hear it. Fortunately, everyone is involved in other projects so I’ll be able to support them in one way or another, and there’s always hope for the occasional reunion show (maybe? we’ll see…)

Here’s the note posted on their website:

11 Years of Tiara

We’d like to thank all of our friends, family, fans and supporters who have made this all worth doing. We’ve decided to pack it in and retire TIARA. This was an amicable decision agreed upon by all current members of the band and we are obviously all remaining good pals, we’ve just come to an end. We’re all continuing to make music in our other projects, Brian Moore in Brainbow & Jon Chinn & 1803 with Brian Freshour, Jess Faller in The Celebrity Pilots & Chris McCoy & The Gospel, Erik Kang in The Cabdrivers & with me, Eric Rottmayer in my solo project, eric Metronome.

We wish to invite you all to our final 3 shows:

Sunday, June 25th at COMFEST: 5pm at The Off-Ramp Stage

Saturday, July 1st at The Surly Girl (outside) for a Columbus Music Co-Op Benefit (in the afternoon, more details to come)

Saturday, July 1st at Little Brothers with The Sun, The Kyle Sowashes, & Wussy. Doors at 9pm, $5. We are playing first.

Thanks again to everyone who helped us along the way, let us sleep on their floor, gave us hugs and listened to our music. We will always remember this.

Here’s a few Tiara MP3s to get you through the weekend:

Nelly Furtado Covers “Crazy” By Gnarls Barkley

Download it over here.

Dudes, I think I have Nelly Furtado fever again. I was way into her back in 2000 when I saw her play in San Francisco. I sort of didn’t pay attention to her when her second release came out, but I think I’m back in the game once again.

The Walkmen, “A Hundred Miles Off”

Did everyone already forget about the new Walkmen album, “A Hundred Miles Off“? I hope not… It’s currently charting a respectable 71 over at Metacritic, and personally I’ve been playing the fuck out of it.

The band sounds fresh and exciting once again, and that’s a good thing.

I know there’s a lot of releases coming out right now, and things get lost in the shuffle. Don’t let this be one of them.
