Sam Nation of Cincinnati Band The Thirteens Killed in Car Crash

From our message board:

Sunday morning, Sam Nation ( Shipman ) of The Thirteens was killed in a car crash. He and Melissa Fairmount (Of Fairmount Girls and The Thirteens) were driving home from the Comet, when a car ran a red light, and crashed into him. The driver had a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit and was driving without a license.

Melissa and the other driver escaped unharmed, but Sam was killed upon impact.

This is not only a huge loss for The Thirteens and Melissa, but for the arts community as well. Sam was a truly inspirational person and is going to be terribly missed.

Gil Mantera’s Party Dream

We were pleased as punch to see our pals Gil Mantera’s Party Dream be the Spin Band of the Day earlier this week. It’s great to see the band getting solid national buzz.

I still remember the first time I saw the band perform live. It was at an outdoor festival (Comfest), and it was the first time I saw anyone fit an entire typewriter into a speedo.
