Split Enz Regroup For Tour

This summer, New Zealand’s most famous musical export Split Enz will reunite and tour for the first time in over 20 years. Unfortunately, they’re saying that it’s only a tour and no new Enz material will come of it, but beggars can’t be choosers.

The outside commitments of the six musicians mean there is no room for a return to the studio for Split Enz. “It takes a lot of energy to do that,” says Tim Finn. “You just can’t flit in and out of it. It would be really tricky.” So fans will have to content themselves with the upcoming shows.

“We’re not selling anything. No one’s hanging on it. Hopefully, when we play we can simply enjoy the music.” [full story]

Michael Stipe Covers Joseph Arthur

From their newsletter:

We’re excited to announce that Michael has recorded Joseph Arthur’s song, In the Sun, for Gulf Coast relief. Six different versions of the song have been complied as an EP and will be made available as an iTunes exclusive on February 5th (this Sunday) at 11pm ET. The EP features guest appearances from some of Michael’s friends including James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), Chris Martin (Coldplay), and Joseph Arthur, and includes a special mix by Justin Timberlake and Will.I.Am (Black Eyed Peas). All proceeds from the song will aid Mercy Corps in their continuing efforts to respond to needs along the Gulf Coast.

And Starring Jack White and Brendan Benson As The Raconteurs

The Raconteurs official website went up today, and you can hear two songs on it.

It takes a lot for me be impressed by a band’s website, but this one’s 1982 novelty factor put a smile on my filthy face.

Arctic Monkeys Make UK Chart History

I guess I should check out this band.

The Arctic Monkeys completed their transformation from underground heroes to bona fide rock stars last night as their album became the fastest selling debut in British chart history.

The quartet’s “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not”, secured 363,735 over-the-counter sales during the first week of release. Downloads from online stores are likely to push the opening sales beyond 400,000 – although these sales have not been included in the tally. (full story)
