Tarkio was the band Colin Meloy was in before he started The Decemberists. Kill Rock Stars has just released a 2-CD compilation of the band’s albums and you can buy it here.

It’s definitely an interesting listen for fans of the Decemberists – you can hear the beginnings of that band in these songs. It’s a lot more stripped down, more alt country than Meloy’s later work, but enjoyable nonetheless.
