The Onion’s A.V. Club Gets Graded
With this issue, The A.V. Club introduces letter grades to our reviews. This decision is the result of long, intense discussions that eventually boiled down to “Meh? Why not?” And so it was decided. And so it was done. Hate it? Love it? Don’t care? Please let us know. It won’t change anything, but it’s nice to hear anyway.
The new Strokes gets a B+. Ryan Adams gets a B. Actually, after looking at all the released they reviewed (about 6), they all ranged from B- to B+.
I SMELL CONSPIRACY.
(not really)
(what a boring thing for me to write about. whatever. screw you!)

So What’s Up With Pedro the Lion?
Here’s info from their publicist, Riot Act Media:
Pedro the Lion’s TW Walsh has decided to leave the band and take his life in a different direction, returning to his career as a software engineer. “Dave and I are still buddies,” says Walsh, “I wish him the best, and I know that he’ll continue to thrive and grow as an artist on his own…I think his best work is still ahead of him. As for me, I’m thankful for all the experiences that my tenure with the band provided, but I am sure that this was the right decision for me and my family.”
With TW’s departure, Dave Bazan has decided to drop the Pedro The Lion moniker and forge ahead under his own name. This is not to say that the Pedro The Lion name will never be used again. But for now there will be no new releases or touring using the band name.
Bazan plans to work on a new studio album in the spring and summer that will be released by Jade Tree in early 2007. Bazan’s other musical outlet, Headphones, will most likely have a new album prepped for release by Suicide Squeeze sometime after the solo effort.
TW will continue work on his new project, the Soft Drugs, and will release a debut sometime in 2006.

Happy New Year
2005 can go fuck itself.
I might have said that about 2004, but this time I really mean it. 2006 is the year where it all comes together, one way or another, though. So much planning and dreaming have been focused on what happens this year by me and a lot of my close friends, that I really can’t wait to see it unfold. It’s gonna be good.

Rye Coalition News
The band recorded an album with Dave Grohl a few years ago but it has been in limbo ever since all the record companies bought each other out awhile ago. Remember that? ugh.
Anyway, looks like the album is about to see the light of day.
2006 begins with bang for the Hard Luck 5. Our first release in almost 3 years, Chariots On Fire is a 4 song EP produced by Dave Grohl and engineered by Grammy Award winning producer Nick Raskulinecz. It will be unleashed on Tuesday, January 17th and will be available on CD in Europe only. Stateside it will be available digital download through all major online retailers. By the way, the artwork is sick.
We will be joining the Foo Fighters in January as support for their European tour. We will be doing a bunch of solo shows as well. We are really excited to bring our live show back to Europe, and give the Europeans something we have deprived them of for far too long. If youre lucky enough to be in the NYC tri-state area, you can catch us in a few area appearances before the tour begins. Check out the tour dates for details.
In April we will release our long awaited album Curses. A collection of 12 brand spanking new songs produced by Dave Grohl. An ass kicker of album by any mans standards, it could blow the beard off of any hipsters face and could melt the star tattoos on any gals body. We know it has been a long time coming, but it is well worth the wait. These are the best Rye Coalition songs to date. The mixes are hot and the album cover is hotter. We cant wait to give birth to this little monster so we can watch it wreak havoc on the earth. Fans.Nurture the baby. Love the monster. Love it like its your own. It is our gift to you.
Tour dates after the break.
