Last Night’s White Stripes Concert

This was the third time seeing the White Stripes.

First time was in Detroit, when they played with the Strokes. Second time was the over-sold Promowest show in Columbus.

I think this was my favorite show by them. Previously, I’ve found myself bored by an extended set of just the guitar and drums, and it got closer to the end, I was ready to head out and beat the crowd. With the new album, and the addition of a lot more instruments, it brought new sounds and textures to their set and it definitely kept my attention.

It’s also good to see Jack is still a weirdo, even after all those album sales.

Cursive’s Not So Secret Secret Tour

If you head on over to Cursive’s website, you’ll see this news bulletin:

You should look for the following bands in the next week or two: Flippy and Hambone, T Lite & the Heavies, Jazz Hessian, Cursifix, Stuffy Dumbfuck, and Sgt. Snippy

In these cities:
Chicago, IL
Columbus, OH
Wilkes Barre, PA
New London, CT
North Manchester, IN
Lansing, MI

Oh boy, if you like seeing Cursive you should really see these shows.

The Columbus show is Tuesday @ Bernie’s.

“Let’s do it for Johnny, man. We’ll do it for Johnny!”

Jett Superior links to Yahoo! Entertainment which reveals that Warner Bros. is re-releasing the 1983 classic The Outsiders (starring Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swayze and Tom Cruise) in a limited theatrical run on September 9 with an added 22 minutes of footage and a new rock and roll soundtrack. Then, on September 20, The Outsiders will be released as part of a two-DVD set.

I remember when the movie came out. I was in 6th grade. A group of my friends and I went to see the movie and afterwards Andy Norris felt the urge to get in a fight with a group of kids waiting for their parents to come pick them up. Little did he know that one of the kids was carrying a knife. Obviously, we scattered like mice after the kid pulled the weapon and threatened to gut us all.

Sun Kil Moon Covers Modest Mouse

Chromeswaves.net reports that the new Sun Kil Moon CD, Tiny Cities, to be released on November 1 will consist entirely of Modest Mouse covers. Of course, anybody familiar with Mark Kozelek’s work knows that the covers will sound nothing like the originals. Billboard.com is kind enough to supply the track listing:

“Tiny Cities Made of Ashes”
“Neverending Math Equation”
“Space Travel Is Boring”
“Dramamine”
“Jesus Christ Was an Only Child”
“Four Fingered Fisherman”
“Grey Ice Water”
“Convenient Parking”
“Trucker’s Atlas”
“Ocean Breathes Salty”
