Danny Bonaduce’s New VH1 Reality Show

I saw an extended commercial for this show and it seemed pretty good. But this quote sort of seals the deal for me:

“No normal person expects someone to slit their wrists on your reality show,” Michael Hirschorn, the channel’s executive vice president of programming and production, said in a recent interview. (full story)

Yeah, I’m lame.

Hurricane Katrina Donation

Look, in case you’ve overlooked this on every other website you visit, here is a quick and easy way to donate to the Red Cross for the Hurricane Katrina relief fund.

It’s looking more and more like it’s up to the American people (and the rest of the world) to help each other, and not the government, so do what you can. Every bit helps.

Last Week on Donewaiting.com

Donewaiting.com is made up of a lot of blogs, so it’s easy to overlook the occasional story. Here’s some things you might have missed from last week:

Katrina’s effect on music

Coolfer has a comprehensive wrap up of how Katrina is affecting musicians and music history related to New Orleans.

There are more important losses to mourn than those related to music. But the cultural artifacts that have been destroyed add another layer to the tragedy.

RIP RL Burnside

From the Fat Possum Website:

We are sad to announce that RL Burnside died this morning in his hospital room in Memphis.

Hurricane Katrina Benefit on NBC

Harry Connick, Jr and others will be performing Friday for a benefit.

Of course, you can donate to the Red Cross here at any time during the day.

Donewaiting.com Record Label: Stream the Entire New Album from the Celebrity Pilots

Our brand spanking new record label Sunken Treasure Records is slowly learning how to crawl, it’s very cute. We expect it to be saying “mama”, “papa” or “mp3” real soon.

Anyway, as you might know the first artist to be released on our new label is The Celebrity Pilots. To start gearing up for the album release shows next week, we’ve decided to stream the entire album online for free.

That’s right, folks. Give it a listen before you buy it. And we know you’ll buy it.

Kanye Debate

I’m one of those people who respect what Kanye West is doing, but it personally doesn’t move me in any form. I like his story, his politics and his ambition, but when it comes to his music, I can take it or leave it.

Pitchfork gave the album a 9.5, which is pretty amazing. However, I really like this review from Tuning Fork. Here’s a highlight:

I wasn’t that desperate to talk about this but i have already had two people come up to me today and tell me this record is awesome, and I was like are you fucking kidding me? And they were all like listen to this and tell me that shit ain’t hot and I was all like of course it’s hot, but why can’t it be intelligent, why can’t it be inspiring, why can’t it be upsetting, why can’t it be confusing? Kanye’s record has the same coming of age ghetto stories as every other commercial hip hop record out there and it is annoying. This is your expression of self – and you plagiarized. Not verbatim, but you followed the formula . If you are going to craft a story, tell one that hasn’t been told, and if you are going to tell me about your life then don’t wonder what I will think of you – just say it, you don’t need justification from me. So what about you? Kanye lover or otherwise unimpressed?
