Apple Music Event Sept 7

iTunes phone? Video iPod? New iPod shuffle/mini? An all-in-one mega-device, like the Motorola E680i? Apple has announced a “Special Event” Sept 7 in San Francisco. The Wall Street Journal reports that Cingular has signed on to the iTunes Phone. The New York Times has more.

Straight from the horse’s (singer/guitarist Justin Sinkovich) mouth:

Atombombpocketknife has been my principle creative outlet and extended family since 1997. After three albums, an EP, dozens of singles and compilation appearances, shows in twelve different countries, thousands of hours in studios, vans, and practice spaces; The family remains but the band must rest its head once and for all. Che is moving to Austin Texas, and mainly we feel pretty good about where we?ve been and to close a pretty decent-sized chapter in our lives.

You know what this means? Another 2,659 bands are about to sprout up featuring ex-Atombombpocketknife members. Let’s wait this out and see if that’s a good thing.

Their final show will be in Chicago at The Empty Bottle September 10.

SHOW NOTES:

  • When I said I was busy screen printing, I guess I really meant I was busy watching Clint Reno screen print.
  • Donewaiting.com record label is Sunken Treasure Records.
  • I’m not sure what made me make fun of almost every podcast ever recorded towards the end of the show. I blame the weather.

PS: As a reminder, you do not need an ipod to listen to this. If you can play mp3s on your computer, you can listen to the show.

Transformers

Finally, a reason to write about the Transformers on my music website.

If the Transformer Soundwave was invented in the year 2005, he’d look a lot like this Threadless.com submission.

I really hope they make that t-shirt.

Some Major Labels Think $0.99 for a Digital Download is Not Enough

Major Label: “Everyone is downloading our music for free, we aren’t making any money. Sob cry sob. What are we to do?”

Apple: “We’ve just created the iPod! People love it! We’ve just started the iTunes Music Store where you can now legally download songs for just 99 cents!”

Major Label: “Hurrah, we are saved! Everyone makes money, everyone win!”

Three years later….

Major Label: “We want to charge $1.49 for hot singles! We aren’t getting enough money! We are never satisfied!”

TO BE CONTINUED…

Preparing for CMJ 2005

We’re not going to even try and cover the comings and going of the CMJ festival this year. We know what we gotta do when it comes to SXSW coverage, but when it’s time for CMJ, we leave it to the locals like Brooklyn Vegan. Be sure to check out his list of recommended and triple hot shows.

Donewaiting.com humbly recommends Columbus OH’s very own The Evil Queens on 9/16 @ the Pussycat Lounge @ 12am.

Seattle Times Track by Track Death Cab for Cutie Album Review

Excellent breakdown of the new Death Cab For Cutie album from the Seattle Times:

While it’s by far the best DCFC work to date, it also suggests the band is not at its destination ? it’s still moving, trudging up through the snow. As good as “Plans” is ? and it’s easily one of the best albums of 2005 ? there can be hope that Death Cab will eventually unleash fiercely powerful music that will really shake listeners, and make us remember “Plans” as just the first leg of a long journey. Warner Bros. to Launch MP3-Only Record Label

Well, maybe not mp3s, but definitely not CDs

Edgar Bronfman Jr., Warner Music’s chairman and CEO, said Monday that the new mechanism will be called an “e-label,” in which artists will release music in clusters of three songs every few months rather than a CD every few years.

The e-label will permit recording artists to enjoy a “supportive, lower-risk environment” without as much pressure for huge commercial hits, Bronfman said. In addition, artists signed to the e-label will retain copyright and ownership of their master recordings. (full story)

This is a pretty interesting idea, if you ask me (and you did). I’ll be watching this closely.
