New York Times Makes Me Want to Think the New White Stripes Album Is The Greatest Album Ever
I’m waiting for it to be released properly before I listen to any of it, but man, these dudes at the Times are creating some amazing hype. I hope it’s half as good as what they say.
On June 7, the White Stripes return with a thrilling new album, “Get Behind Me Satan” (Third Man/V2/BMG), that goes a long way toward dismantling the band’s goofy mythology. It’s an album so strong and so unexpected that it may change the way people hear all its predecessors. And that’s just a start. Listen long enough, and this album might change the way you hear lots of other bands, too. (full review)

Saddle Creek to Become the Donald Trump of Record Labels
But they’ll have better hair, of course.
In a deal with the city of Omaha and Bluestone Development, Saddle Creek has proposed a $10 million+ project to erect buildings in downtown Omaha, including a rock concert hall/bar called Slowdown (named after Slowdown Virginia, an early Saddle Creek band that featured Tim Kasher), a pizza shop, a theater run by a non-profit cinema showing indie/foreign films, and additional retail space and residential areas. The new space is set to be built in an envisioned “fun zone” in Omaha’s dilapidated north downtown area. (full story)
