50 Fun iPod Things to Do

Here’s a list of 50 Fun Things to Do With Your iPod Besides Playing Music.

In the four years since its introduction, the iPod has proven to be a versatile little device. Despite a relatively closed architecture, hackers have found their way in. Content creators and software makers put information at your fingertips when you’re on the go. Would-be designers have added to the fashionable stylings of the now-ubiquitous white ear buds. Hardware makers and enthusiasts have augmented the iPod with new add-on gadgets. Here are a few dozen things you can do with your iPod besides listen to music.

Introducing the Donewaiting.com Photoblog

Here’s something fun for all you fine feathered friends of donewaiting.com who may have a camera phone (or even a digital camera) — introducing the brand new Donewaiting.com Photoblog!

This thing is pretty easy.

If you take a photo from your phone, e-mail it to donewaiting.pix@tamw.com and enter the name of the band in the title and any other information in the body (along with the picture). You can also send short videos (25 meg max), too.

On top of that, if you don’t have a camera phone, you can just send the photos from your regular e-mail account. Just attach it with all of the above information.

With all the people reading this site, I think we can put together a nice little page of photos around the world.

Also! Don’t forget donewaiting.com’s standard photo gallery, with photos taken by our Lead Photographer Kim Rottmayer — there’s some good ones here!

I learned about this site from my little sister, who has somehow become one of the most popular personal moblogs on their site. She’s so crazy.

Yahoo Unlimited

Yahoo drops the music bomb, with the announcement of a $6.99/month subscription service. From the LA times—

Yahoo Music Unlimited is more like a cable TV service than a record store, letting subscribers play as much music as they wish for as long as they pay $6.99 a month or an annual subscription of $60.

The Yahoo service has over a million songs, employing Window’s Janus digital rights management. A subscription covers 3 PCs and 2 Janus-enabled portable devices. Subscribers can access their collections and stream music from anywhere.

Tracks can be purchased outright for 99?—79? for subscribers. Unlike other services, such as Napster, there is no premium for portability.

Postplay notes&mdash

Yahoo Messenger will be integrated into the application allowing subscribers to pass tracks back and forth via IM. Users of the service can also forward 30-second clips over IM to friends who do not subscribe.

A first look, from PostPlay.

Another source for the latest White Stripes single

A while back, Mr. Duffy posted a place to download the newest single from the White Stripes. The link expired so here’s another place to listen to it.

It’s a little surprising to hear Jack sing like the Scissor Sisters, but somehow I like the way they’re evolving. Their new album is out the first Tuesday in June.

If you’d like to make the song your very own, you can buy it on iTunes (or just visit the page to see Jack White’s new formation of facial hair).

Customized New Music Discovery Radio

Indy, is a streaming music “discovery program”—

Indy uses an advanced collaborative filtering system to predict what kind of music you’ll enjoy hearing. As you rate songs, Indy finds out what you do and don’t like. It compares your preferences with the ratings of all the other Indy users. For example, if you rate a song highly, and another user also likes the same song, Indy guesses that you’d probably like other music that they enjoyed. As you rate more songs, Indy will gets better and better at picking songs that you’ll really enjoy.

So long, Uncle Joe’s

Jersey City’s rock club closes.

It happened suddenly, but should have really been no surprise. I imagine that those closest felt it coming along.

We put on a few great shows at Uncle Joe’s; I’ve got some beautiful memories. Uncle Joe’s – just as Lou, Jasmine, Billy, Joe, Kat, Shaun, Chris, Jesse, and everyone who sat at that loud, dirty, stinking bar wanted – belonged to all of us. It was a good place, despite its lacks. It was a place to play, to sing and dance.

Good times.

There were still smiles last night. There’s hope to find another home.

Tris McCall writes a great piece.

Tuning Fork

Post flow on donewaiting.com is sporadic while I split my time between Ohio and NJ. The rest of the writers are picking up the slack, however, and doing a fine job.

Here’s a link I recently stumbled upon: Tuning Fork, a blog that reviews Pitchfork Reviews.

One day I will start Spork, a blog that reviews Tuning Fork, a blog that reviews Pitchfork.
