Tankboy checks in with entry #2 to his donewaiting.com Chicago column, Lost in Guyville, with a review of last night’s Polyphonic Spree show:
Leader Tim DeLaughter hopped about the stage like a man standing in a puddle with a live wire taped to his feet and the choir behind him jumped and swayed and generally came off as a version of Up With People gone terribly awry. The sheer sonic volume of the band was enough to shear the eyebrows off folks standing too close to the stage but nobody really cared as jaws dropped in awe of the impeccable timing of the band and its expert handling of some pretty wild arrangements. Remember how happy I was when I announced Lost in Guyville as a new addition to the site? You can erase all that because I’m jealous over the fact that I haven’t seen the Spree yet.
Just kidding. Sorta.
PS – I saw Yo La Tengo last night and they did indeed rule. Expect review and MANY LARGE PHOTOS this weekend.
Donewaiting.com cornered the indie rock scene last night, y’all.
