Looks like some people at Pearl Jam’s Long Island show didn’t like it when Eddie Vedder struck up the anti-Bush speech:
A few people threw things, and the band played two more songs, ending with a cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.” As the song faded out, Mr. Vedder reprised the crowd’s chant “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!” sounding more defiant than conciliatory. Then he threw down the microphone and walked off. (full story)
I could understand disagreeing with Eddie, but throwing things is pretty weak. I know I’m one of those people who obsess over every detail about bands I love, so I know Pearl Jam’s political views. However, I would think that even a casual fan is aware of the opinions of the band, and if you’re against them, STAY HOME! Don’t throw things.
Long Island gets all Fs on their report card this month.
