Record Label Roulette

A couple quick and easy record label notes:

  • Rancid leaves Hellcat Records and signs to Warner Bros. Do people still care about this band?
  • One of the donewaiting.com favorites of 2002, The Polyphonic Spree, have gone and signed with Hollywood Records. Two interesting points in this article: first, the label is going to pour money into the band’s live act and in return get a piece of their road earnings. (the band is okay with this). Second, after a certain amount of time the band will get back their master recordings and own them outright. Pretty cool.
  • Shelby Lynne signs with Capitol.
  • Finally, the new donewaiting.com Signal-to-Noise discusses Pearl Jam’s exodus from Epic Records, along with other bands doing similar things. He sums up the issues nicely, complete with an Axl Rose grabbing his crotch photo. Go.
