Liz Phair’s crappy new album certainly has spawned a lot of great journalism:
Was being the indie queen really all that bad? I had no idea. Was being written about in universally glowing terms by the normally savage rock press that much of a turn-off? Was being the object of respect and adoration of a select junta of smart, educated, articulate, cynical, demanding, obsessive, cultural ayatollahs more oppressive than enjoyable? Was being hyped so heavily by everyone with a computer and an opinion to publish because you?re so brilliant and insightful and your work so form-shattering and you?re so obviously one of the greatest songwriters ever who has single-handedly changed the genres and will influence legions of lesser songwriters for years, nay, decades to come not what it?s cracked up to be?
