Rolling Stone to Revolutionize Magazine Industry!

Rolling Stone magazine continues to be a trendsetter! In their 12/11 issue they will distribute a 9 song CD along with the mag. NINE SONGS! Wow, who knew a CD could fit that many songs?!!!

Here’s the best part of the article:

Rolling Stone editor and publisher Jann Wenner said the deal “comes at a time when the record business could use some excitement, some innovation, some added value.” (full story)

Excitement? Jesus, CMJ puts a CD with their magazine every month. So do a lot of other magazines and zines across the globe. Does Rolling Stone think they’re doing something new or innovative?

This hurts my brain.

My Review of the Desert Sessions 9/10 Live on 75 Or Less

That long headline just about says it all. And if you’re so inclined, all three of my reviews so far on the site can be found here.

Getting to Know Azure Ray

“Hold on Love” is the first album by Azure Ray that I’ve purchased, mainly because it was produced by Eric Bachmann of Crooked Fingers. Good choice by me, pat pat on the back.

The album is really beautiful. There is this medly on “Nothing Like a Song” that is just the greatest thing I’ve heard a piano do this year. The rest of the album is really great, too, but I’ve only listened to it a few times so I can’t go in depth. I just wanted to share my joy with you. And you, then, can share it with others.

The Saddle Creek website has two MP3s from the album available for you. Download them. They are “If You Fall” and “Sea of Doubts”. You can buy the album on the cheap here on Amazon.com and get tourdates for the band here.

Bright Eyes Gives Clear Channel The Big Fuck You

At the Shortlist Awards Ceremony held recently, Bright Eyes goes on a rant against Clear Channel. Watch a video of it here.

I need to move to Chicago.

eMusic Ends All-You-Can-Download

I was an emusic member for over a year, it was great. I ended my account awhile back, and it looks like many people are about to do the same.

eMusic, having been acquired by Dimensional Associates LLC, has eliminated its all-you-can-download plan (the only thing that made the service worth the $10 a month), in favor of a 40-download-a-month plan, with a “premium” $15 plan that gets you 60 tracks a month. The whole point of digital music is the risk-free grazing — downloading things on the chance that you’ll like them, downloading songs for an occassion (such as Christmas songs, or the time I made my Dad a three-CD set of different versions of “Stormy Weather”), and other forms of no-risk, all-you-can-eat entertainment. Well, eMusic was fun while it lasted. Bye. (full story)

To put it in perspective: for $10 you could have downloaded the entire Matador Records catalog. Tell me something better than that, and I’ll shine your shoes. Unfortunately, this deal is now gone.

Loretta Hitting College Radio

Congratulations to our friends Loretta for being the 7th most added record today on nationwide college radio according to CMJ this week. 89 radio stations reported that they were added to their playlists.

Good numbers. Keep up the momentum!

Fans Sue Limp Bizkit

Fred Durst and his Limp Bizkit bandmates were sued today in Chicago by 172 concertgoers who claim they were ripped off when the rap/rock group ended a July performance after only 17 scintillating minutes. (full story)

There’s so many other Limp Bizkit jokes to make, but I’m taking the high road here.

In other news, the donewaiting.com humor column/fan shrine Durst Watch will be returning soon, with a new team of writers.

Once Again, The Strokes Hype

Rolling Stone gives the new album four stars. I am really loving this record.

Words and Wisdom of Jessica Simpson

I love that MTV show. My favorite Jessica Simpson line: “I have bubbles in my tummy…It’s just air. It’s not stink. Promise.” More comedy gold found in that link.
