Nice try buddy boys.
Has anyone else noticed the little “Thanks for buying our music please don’t upload it on the Internet and suck all the money out of our pockets” blurbs that have recently been popping up in CD cases? I first noticed it in the new BRMC, and then saw it again inside the new Radiohead single.
Radiohead? Yeah, I really believe that message was personally put there by the band. The same band that seems to have done pretty well for themselves despite rampant filesharing of their music. Yeah, I’m sure they’re the ones worries about downloading. It wouldn’t be a bunch of suits slapping those pleas inside of CD cases, would it? Nooooo!
Make ya a deal. If you industry types just stop bugging us, suing twelve year old girls and start putting out good albums we’ll at least try to refrain from dancing on your graves when your whole outmoded, outdated and generally feudal system comes crashing down around you.
Hey Duffy, is there room in that rocket ship for me?

Hilary Duff #1 On Billboard
The RIAA sued a 12 year old girl, the Pixies are reuniting, and Hilary Duff scored the #1 spot on Billboard.
Jesus Christ. Is the world ending? Yes.
I need a space ship, I gotta get out of here.

Pixes Start Modern Day Nostalgia Act Touring Circuit
You know how people like me and you (twentysomethings) make fun of bands like The Eagles, Simon and Garfunkel, The Who and Journey when they get together and do these nostalgia tours?
Guess what: our time has come. The Pixes reunion marks the beginning of our favorite bands getting back together for the money. Now it’s time for your younger brothers and sisters to make fun of us.
(PS: Jane’s Addiction doesn’t count, they never totally went away)

AND WHILE YOU’RE AT IT, COWBOY: Very active discussion of the reunion going on here, in our message board. Jump in, the water’s fine.

12 Year Old Girl Pays RIAA $2,000 For Settlement
Did you hear? The RIAA sued a 12 year old girl because she had mp3s on your computer. Read about it here.
IS THIS NOT THE MOST RIDICULOUS THING YOU’VE EVER HEARD? JESUS CHRIST. A TWELVE YEAR OLD KID HAD TO PAY THE R.I.A.A. $2,000.
LET THAT SETTLE IN YOUR BRAIN FOR AWHILE. TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. TWELVE YEAR OLD GIRL.
WHAT THE FUCK? SERIOUSLY. *SERIOUSLY*. WHAT THE FUCK?
It makes me hate music, just a little.

Pixies Reunion
Hmm.
In April, the legendary Pixies will reunite for the first time in over a decade. The notoriously quarrelsome quartet have buried the hatchet, clearing the way for all four original members to hop onstage together for a world tour, according to a spokesperson for the band.
If all goes as planned, the triumphant return of one of the most influential rock bands of the late ’80s might also be followed by a new studio album, the source said. The band has not yet gotten together to begin rehearsing for the tour, but, given their ugly breakup in 1993, the announcement is one of the most unlikely and anticipated reunions in the history of indie rock. (full story)
Interesting that it comes on the heels of the Simon and Garfunkel reunion announcement. What’s next, Rage Against the Machine? The Beatles?
[thanks for the head’s up, GAVA]

VMA Ratings Were Actually Down This Year
For all the hype over the smooch session between Madonna and nymphets Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, you’d expect ratings for MTV’s Video Music Awards to have been at record-setting levels.
But this year’s broadcast was actually down 12 percent from last year’s among total viewers. (full story)
